re photos to be used in our Jan.31st poll to select our February 2007 flagship.
Deadline is 9PM on January 31st
First issue: Which ship to be our Miss February ?
Someone suggested Queen of Saanich, as she had her Royal Sealink Express collision during February fog.
However, I'm willing to apply some moderator-muscle to consider an override to choose another ship for February:
There doesn't have to be a monthly connection to a certain historical event....because anyway you look at it, all the fleet's ships existed in a month of February.
All that being said, Saanich entered service in the month of February, she crunched the Sealink in February, and she is sometimes the #1 Swartz ship in February
In order to ensure fair representation of the various ship's, here's what we've had so far:
July - Tachek Aug - Queen of Victoria Sept. - Queen of Prince Rupert Oct. - Queen of Surrey (representing her C-Class sisters) Nov. - Mayne Queen Dec. - Capilano Jan. - Pacificats
That's 7 months so far: - 1 V, 1 C, 1 northern, 1 cat, 3 minors.
Sounds like it's time for another V...so Saanich would be fair.
(note, for future months, we should apply the same consideration in determining what ship we should honour...ie. we won't be honouring Tachek every single July....). ================
Please submit your submissions on this thread, of Queen of Saanich, for choice as February flagship.

robert, we made the decision last year about the forum flagship for each month of the year. However, before July of this year, mr skier may make a new list of what forum flagship will be for 07/08. It does not make sense for the Alberni to come in on february for that reason, June would be more apt or november from when she left for mid life.
anyways, I need to look through my pics and see which would be the best one. Warning, expect plenty of shots from our galiano trip.

Mr. Horn, I believe can fill you in on alot of this. Perhaps we should have a read-me for new members. The list can be found here but I will quote it in here "January: Pacificat Discovery (Pulled out of service) Febuary: Queen of Saanich (Collides with Royal Vancouver) March: Queen of the North (Sinks on March 22nd) April: Queen of Coquitlam (First ferry to undergo mid-life upgrade) May: Varies June: Queen of Oak Bay (Sewells Marina, June 30th)" Now posting ranks go as follows 0-49 posts Oiler 50-199 Chief Steward 200-499 Chief Officer 500-1499 Chief Engineer* 1500-2499 Captain* 2500+ Senior Captain These are posting ranks, the ones with stars I am not sure where they go up to with the end of Chief Engineer rank and Captain rank but that is what I am guessing. robert, feel free to introduce yourself here in the new members thread. If you have anything else to ask, feel free to ask any member or ask one of the moderators.

re Political Incorrectness's primary elimination:
re his pics 1-6:
I like:
#5: because it shows the propeller-wash being kicked up, and the lighthouse is a nice background.
#1: nice angled action shot, a good distance away, with lots of beautiful Active Pass scenery.

Good, so we will revisit the monthly ships, after the 1st year's cycle runs out, after June 2007. I was worried that we'd have the same ships, year after year. We'll have to do something a bit more official in choosing the ships for the next cycle....but that can wait until June 2007.....some sort of poll for various months. Thanks to all the members who support & partcipate in these monthly choices of pictures.

April: Queen of Coquitlam (First ferry to undergo mid-life upgrade) Sorry, but I think that one should be revisited. If you're going to have a month dedicated to when the first Ferry of its class went into a major upgrade, then please have it at least in the month it actually went in/returned from. Not 2 months before it was put back into service, or 4 months after it went in for the upgrade. I can't think of any major accidents off of the tip of my mind....so...... My nomination for April will be..........the Mill Bay! Nobody seems to have a huge liking this Ferry, except for one member who doesn't come around anymore. This Ferry is probably one of the most made fun of Ferries in the fleet, besides the Queen of Chilliwack. Also, I see to forget about this Ferry from time to time, and I'm sure other people have as well. So I think this could be a good reminder, that there is a very small ferry, operating on a small route which takes longer to cross than it should. The real kicker is that it provides more access to an area of Victoria, which is also can easily be accessed by dozens of roads. My two cents worth.

We could have a poll in early March 2007, to select the April 2007 ship.
Thanks for your 2 cents, Chris.

"Every dog has it's day", as the saying goes.
Despite all the abuse we give it, the Mill Bay has been on the same route for fifty years. Quite remarkable, one way or the other. Maybe it does deserve some time in the spotlight. Besides, if it doesn't get a certain someone back on board here, nothing will.
So now, there's four cents in favour of the Mill Bay. Arf arf.

Darn, this February Saanich contest is going to be very tough, judging by what you've shown, so far.
I also hope that Jim or Darren can enter an "original configuration" picture to this contest, too.
(Moral of the story: If you ran the Chilliwack through Active Pass on a sunny day, it just might look good, too.....)

The Reason for the saanich is because of the collision with the royal vancouver, why not have a photo of that. When they were melded together in a fury of aluminum and steel?

First off Klatawa, can you find one that has some cropping distance? Second off is it not zoomed all the way up? Third off, can I refer you to flugel for selling you another question mark?
