This thread is for your submissions for the May 2007 cover photo. Criteria as follows: - a current Washington State Ferries vessel - please try to size your photo according to the criteria (see previous monthly threads like this one for the size criteria) - it should be a photo that you took yourself (or by say a family member or friend)....this is intended to eliminate purchased photos, stock items, etc. - Please try to limit the submissions by each person to say 2 items or 3 at the most (otherwise it's like the Kentucky Derby with so many participants - we want this to be more like the Belmont) - Please tell us a bit about your photo, re where/when you took it, special circumstances etc. Please also take the opportunity to educate the BC'ers on this forum re the history and significance of the ship in your picture. - If you are going to add script to your photo banner, please say something like "Ferries of BC forum"...as this is intended to be a forum header...and so it should refer to the forum's name. Please also include the name of the WSF ship as "WSF MV Quagmire" Thanks for all your participation. ps: for those waiting for the subtle pun of the month, I'll say it now: "I hope that the May entries are not slim-pickens". ;D

Ut oh...does that mean you don't want any from me? Oh well, here are some anyway... The Chelan in 2001, leaving Bremerton. She was sporting a fresh paint job having just had the upper car deck added. I think there was a Mariner's game that Saturday as there were a lot of people out on the pickle forks. One of the Grand Dames of the fleet, the M/V Illahee awaiting the Elwha to pull out from the Orcas Island dock. I snapped this from the pickle fork of the Elwha as we pulled out. Summer of 2005. Summer of 2003, I think, taken from the Kaleetan. The Elwha was running late and we were dogging her back into Anacortes. She made a turn at full speed and leaned right over.

Evergreenfleet, I absolutely do want some photo submissions from you.
The pun: that I hope we don't just have a few submissions from the members, but rather that we have lots overall. Otherwise, only a few would be considered "slim pickings".
To conclude: - we don't want slim pickings - we do want Steve Pickens' pictures.

The MV Elwha on the international run to Sidney, BC, August 2003. IMHO ferries of the Evergreen Fleet should not be identified as 'Ferries of BC', but as Ferries of Washington State.

But hey, whatever.

Not a huge deal, but I agree with Flugel Horn that maybe the title should be "Ferries of British Columbia Forum" since "Ferries of British Columbia" doesn't really make sense with WSF ferries and "Ferries of Washington State" doesn't make too much sense with the majority of discussion on this forum.

I care to protest due to my stance on "Political Correctness" just for the irony of it

Okay, here's round two then: Same shot of the Chelan A shot of the Quinault approaching Friday Harbor in 2006 that I like better... And the same Elwha. All these should meet the 210 criteria, after some wrangling...

I think we should just start calling the forum "West Coast Ferry Forum" or West Coast Ferries" because John is eventually gonna come out with a new site.

So this will be my entry for May. Another shot of the Elwha doing the international run in August of 2003. The photo was taken from the north end of Sidney Island in what is now Gulf Islands National Park, BC.

Well, seeming I never bothered entering the Coquitlam flagship contest, I may as well throw a picture in this one, of the only WSF I have pictures of. But to be P.C., I'll post a picture of a WSF in BC waters, as this is a Ferries of British Columbia forum. Anyways, here it is. For full size, go to..... i99.photobucket.com/albums/l291/ferryman_2006/Forum/banner-1.jpg

Evergreen Fleet, that last pic of the Elwha is very neat; quite the turn she's in.

So far Wet Coastal Kid's of the Elwha or Evergreenfleet's picture of the Quinualt have my vote.

It's not a big deal to change the title of the forum - it would only take a minute. But maybe we could get a consensis on what to change it to. Does West Coast Ferry Forum sound more inclusive? We're still primarily a British Columbia forum.
Another idea would just to leave the title off any photos that aren't British Columbia photos... sometimes (take this month for instance), the winning photo doesn't have any writing on it.

Too long, I'll start another thread in rules reasons and recommendations. Also could one of the mods flag it?

Howabout "Internet Discussion Forum Catering To Topics Concerning and Including BC Ferries, Washington State Ferries, BC Inland Highways Ferries, Black Ball Ferries, Canadian Pacific Railway's Coastal Steamship Service, Union Steamships, CNR/Grand Trunk Steamships, Translink, Digby Island's Airport Ferry, The Alaska Marine Highway, Sparky New's Coast Ferries, Gavin Mouat's Gulf Island Ferries and Why The Sky Is Blue"?
Or, we could stop fretting about it and leave these fabulous photos uncluttered by pixelated text.
