For this first month of the next cycle of Flagships, let's choose a picture of a private-company ferry, that is a ship that is retired; and that was sailing in BC prior to the start of BC Ferries.
ie. - Blackball - Sparky's - Gulf Islands - CP - Etc.
Please try to nominate pics that are shown in original "non BC Ferries" livery", for those ships that were later transferred to BC Ferries.
Obviously, this month's nominations will likely include photos that you yourself have not taken personally....because we're going back 48+ years in time.
So, yes, this means that any photos from your "collection" are eligible. I suppose that public-domain pics are also eligible, if you wish to crop them for banner-shape/size.
Have fun. Nominations for this batch will close at end of June 2007.
---------------- (late edit made to correct typo in date, as apparently some were confused that when I typed 2006, that I really had the power to go back in time, and take some of you with me. Sadly, my special powers are currently in the shop for servicing)

Can we post the currently-in-service Coho?

Can we post the currently-in-service Coho? Lets gets some feedback from the other people who plan to nominate pics for that month....see if they think that Coho fits into that month's theme, or not.

Well she is technically a Blackball Ferry so I feel she should be included...Plus it would give me some photos. to post.

Yeah, plus most retired ships are too old for documentation, I think graham will be the one winning hands down unless I take a day trip to Vic.

In the original Fluge post above he has used the word retired. The Coho is not yet retired so it would not be eligible.
My opinion is to stick with what Fluge wrote yesterday. This means that the photo that is used will have started its life as a chemical image rather than a multitude of ones and zeros. The picture might even be in black & white.

Thanks for the feedback.
Lets stick with "retired" ships, and so this makes Coho ineligible.
So sorry if this eliminates some of you from submitting nominations, but there are many months in the next few years, and so there will be lots of opportunity.
So, to reiterate: July-2007 will be for retired ships from BC, that were in service prior to the start of BC Ferries.

Just to clarify... would this include ships/ferries that are retired but continued to operate after 1960? Just thinking of the Princess Marguerite II in particular, but it could apply to other ships as well.

To clarify: 1) must be retired, as of now. 2) must have been operating pre-1960

Here's a question that might also apply to future forum flagships but principly to this round. What about banner photos of accurate scale models?

Well, let's see how this goes: Submission #1--the mighty Brentwood: Full size available at: i9.tinypic.com/4qy0bif.jpgSubmission #2--Chinook II: Full size available at: i9.tinypic.com/5xnlsv7.jpgSubmission #3--Victoria Harbour: Available at: i19.tinypic.com/6galtll.jpgThe first two have been reduced to fit the screen without sidescrolling. The third is full-sized. These have all been taken from slides and the Brentwood image was enlarged from the size of about half of a BB. ;D *edit!* Okay, correct date and vessel names added to Victoria Harbour. EvergreenFleet assures me it really is the Maggie (I can't tell the difference between her and the Pat. )

Shiver me timbers!! Those are some good pics you got barnacle , but rule say for two so the Chinook and Kalakala should be the ones due to their outstanding quality.

Wow, this is what I was hoping for. Some historical diversity.
The Brentwood pic is something that I'd never seen before. I'm sure Cascade will be voting for that one!
Thanks for submitting those. And thanks for spelling "Harbour" in the Canadian way, eh. You are a fine-detail fine fellow.

My mini-mod friend, the recently updated and stickied "Read first" bulletin of rules now has submissions limited to "3". (John posted these rules on the Flagship page, as a sticky-bulletin, so that it's easier to keep track of them).

Yes, she is eligible....but preferably in pre-BCF livery.

Here's a question that might also apply to future forum flagships but principly to this round. What about banner photos of accurate scale models? For this specific month of "pre 1960 BC ships", photos of models are not eligible. A great idea nonetheless (such as T-Terminal's many pictures of his trip to the BC Maritime Museum, or Curtis' "Queen of the Frogs"), that a moderator might want to incorporate into a future month's flagship theme. But not this month, for this specific theme.

And thanks for spelling "Harbour" in the Canadian way, eh. You are a fine-detail fine fellow. When in Rome, eh? ;D *edit!* Drat! I'll have to fix the date on the Vic Harbour one--it was taken in 1955, not 1959. And since the Port Angeles route only operated until September 30, it probably wan't taken in October, either. I'll replace it with a rather more generic "1955." ;D By the way, here's the original slide: The 'color restoration' option on my scanner is awesome. ;D

So thats what the MV Brentwood Looks Like. So far, either the Princess Marguerite or the Chinook II banner has my vote.
