The Flagship theme for November 2009 is ferries that carry rail-cars and/or drop-trailers. Examples of this criteria include: - Seaspan self propelled ships like Carrier Tribal Princess, Mother Superior, Seaspan Doris Day - Seaspan pusher-tug & barge such as Seaspan Challenger, Seaspan Atlantis, Seaspan Columbia, Seaspan Endeavor and Seaspan Discovery. - Van Isle Barge Service's pusher-tug & barge. (some of the names may not appear exactly as I've listed them ;D) Photos can be of ships in their current livery or in previous historical clothing, such as CP's Carrier Princess and the Yorke siblings (Doris & Greg). And maybe someone's got a shot of the Trailer Princess. So if you've got a photo of a self-propelled or pushed barge for rail cars or drop trailers in our west coast waters, then you've got an eligible photo. -------------------------- Regular rules apply re size of photos and how you post your nominations. Those regular rules are found at: ferriesbc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=flagship&action=display&thread=3510Limit of 3 nominations for each person, please. Nominations close at 5:00pm PDT on Friday October 30th. Voting happens from 9:00pm on October 30th until 9:00pm on October 31st. In the Pacific Daylight time zone (thanks to Sanford Fleming for that....).

Do Route 1 and 30 vessels count..? They carry drop trailers... ;D Ha ha: No. The vessel's primary purpose must be for rail-cars or drop-trailers.

Here is a another 'Superior' photo from August 2007. This is a working boat with a 'working' background. Full size version here. Here is a second photo which may not be eligible but I will put it out here for consideration. This is a shot of the Alaska Marine Lines tug & barge service which connects Alaskan ports with Puget Sound. I believe that this is the main method of getting virtually everything (except people and private cars) into and out of south-east Alaska. The photo was taken in July 2006 from the Queen of Chilliwack in waters just north of Queen Charlotte Sound.

Here is a second photo which may not be eligible but I will put it out here for consideration. Thanks for showing that interesting photo of that fully-packed barge. For the flagship ballot, we're just having self-propelled or tug-pushers. So a towed barge isn't eligible for this month. But it's still nice to look at here. It reminds me of someone's utility trailer or moving trailer being stacked as high as possible.

It reminds me of someone's utility trailer or moving trailer being stacked as high as possible. I have lots of pics of those barges with all manner of things stacked sky high. Whole logging camps, trailers, sheds, vehicles, plus the actual containers. I looked through the ancient slides in the basement, because I was sure I had some of the Princess Vancouver and the rail carrier that docked below the Guiness Building loading. About between where the Convention Centre is and the building, buried under fill is where the ferry terminal was. Slightly NNW from the building. No luck so must have been actual photo and who knows where those are. Will keep looking though when I have a chance.

If your picture wins and is the banner, will everyone visiting the forum need to click "full size" at the top of the page? Please set it so the web-address takes you right to the picture as a banner, and no other Flikr stuff (ie just the banner and only the banner displayed). Thanks !

Oh of course, my bad, I forgot that we host the image ourselves and not the forum. I guess that I'm a little rusty with procedures after being away from the forum for so long. The link to the full sized version has now been fixed.
