Well guys, I won't lie.....I forgot that the May forum flagship is my month. So I tried to think about what we should do for that month. I looked through the archives to find some sort of significant events for the month of May, but didn't find anything worth highlighting. Plus we've darn near exhausted every idea we could come up with since we started doing this about 4 years ago. So for May 2010, I'd like you to submit your favourite Ferry photo. Keep in mind, that this has to be a photo that you've taken. But if you're to use someone elses photo, you must have permission from the photographer to use it. I don't care if the photo was taken during a December snowstorm, or a July heatwave. Any Ferry, any place. The sky is the limit. When you submit your photo(s), tell us a little about why you like that photo so much. Just remember the usual rules apply. For more on that, refer to: ferriesbc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=flagship&action=display&thread=3510Let the nominations begin! PS: You're able to submit up to 3 (three) photos.

Now I probably have No Chance of Winning this Month Considering this is probably going to be a good month for Flagship Banners but that won't stop me from showcasing a few of my best photos I've been holding over for individual contests. #1: Queen of Burnaby, Approaching Westview Terminal, July 2008. -This is one of those shots that when enhanced in a certain way comes out brilliant. #2 A: Queen of Tsawwassen, Approaching Earls Cove, August 2008. -This was taken on my last memorable morning sailing on the Tsawwassen. #2 B: Not necessarily my entry, but alternatively, I made this Image Just for Fun... #3: Island Sky, Approaching Earls Cove, March 2010. -I'm a bit upset by the lack of Island Sky recognition here, someday she'll get the attention she deserves though.

Scott, I think that your MV Mill Bay picture is one of your best ever. Perfect mix of colours of the ship, water and trees.

Great topic idea. This was really hard to choose, but here are the 3 that I think best represent my ferry photography, at least the ones that would best fit into the banner size. i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff181/bswanplsbo/Signatures/ForumHeader__PuyallupatEdmonds.jpgThis one almost needs no explanation. The silhouette of the ferry Puyallup up aginst the dramatic colours of the sunset kind of says it all. visually, it's stunning, and is handily one of the best ferry photos I have ever taken. i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff181/bswanplsbo/Signatures/ForumHeader__Spokane.jpgWhat I love about this photo is the balance of Spokane's graceful Spaulding lines against the dark, blustery backdrop of Puget Sound. The little bit of sun that was present that day accentuates the sides of the vessel making it stand out even a little more. I've gotta say, the original jumbos look great in profile, and that's why this photo earns a top spot in my collection. i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff181/bswanplsbo/Signatures/ForumHeader__WenatcheeSunDeck.jpgI like this photo because of the artistry of the scene, the ighting, and the colours. It's not just simply a photo of a ferry. It takes a small vignette from the ferry, in this case the Sun Deck, and treats it with equal importance as the scenery behind it - no more, no less.

Here are my three submissions for this month: MV Chelan at Sidney last November. The texture of the clouds don't let the photo get too gloomy looking, while still putting a cap on the excitement of the picture: FullsizeQueen of Burnaby, taken on Christmas Eve. In my opinion, the rusty colour actually adds to it in a nice kind of way; it matches the golden brilliance of the mountains in the background: FullsizeQueen of Vancouver, taken awhile ago from a Spirit. I think the rocks on the side of the picture frame the ferry nicely: Fullsize

Here are my contributions, one from fresh water, two from the salty side... I decided with my photos to put up one of a fresh water ferry, one of a US ferry, and one from BCF. Trying to choose favourite photos from amongst hundreds is no easy task. I have not entered any DOT pictures this time around. The last photo of the Q Cowichan has been a favourite of mine since it was taken just after Christmas in 2006. It may be a bit too wintery as a photo for the month of May, but Chris did say that anything goes...
