PhotoShop or some similar photo editing software The SeaBus(es) have had a few minor incidents, including running into Canada Place and a passenger only ferry, but I am quite confident one has never been partially submerged. Noteworthy in that photo is that the emergency equipment has not been deployed.

My first thought was clever angles, with the water being part of a fountain at Canada Place or something similar.

Quick update on the SeaBus:
The Burrard Otter II, as you may know, has been out and about conducting sea trials. The Burrard Otter, on the other hand, has been tied up at berth 1 at Waterfront for the past month at least. That said, all service is being provided by the Burrard Beaver and Burrard Pacific Breeze.
If anyone has any information on the Otter's future (any more revenue sailings?), that would be appreciated. Thanks!

SeaBus cousins tied up in the maintenance berths, last night at sunset. It is usual for the Breeze to get her weekly rest day on Sundays, at which point the Burrard Beaver assumes service for the day. Seabus Cousins by Howe Sound Ferries, on Flickr

I'm very curious to see her interior, the Otter II that is. Whoever gets on early trips, interior shots would be appreciated. The Burrard Silly-Name is plagued by inappropriate seating materials and is in pretty dire need or a re-finish. It looks embarrassing.
Hypothetically TL will also put out a request for interest on another SeaBus in the next six months or, fiscal 16 still seems to call for a last replacement.

The Otter I was out and about today. It came from Waterfront over to the layup dock right next to the Otter II in North Vancouver this afternoon. Marinetraffic is giving me mixed positions on whether or not it went back to Waterfront already, or if it's in fact staying put on the North Van side.
I have to wonder what the future holds for the Burrard Otter. It's pretty purpose built for the Seabus operation, so I have a hard time thinking it would ever have another use, transporting people back and forth at least.

I saw a bunch of people inside when she was in a maintenance berth this afternoon... dunno what they were doing. I watched her go back to Waterfront on Siitech at about 4:30 today, where she is currently tied up.

Otter (the first) is still in service. This post is brought to you from my uncomfortable fiberglass seat on her. Must be getting close to the last days. If you'd like a ride it is on the :17 / :47 from Lonsdale Quay.

I took a ride aboard the Burrard Otter last week. She's looking weathered for sure. Paint is beginning to peel from the MES units, and rust is beginning to appear on the rubbing strake and anchor.

I was aboard the Otter i as well over the weekend and one of the doors wasn't operating either. I can imagine that being a big issue at rush hour since people can't wait to stampede their way off of there. But you know a vessel is about to retire when it seems like the bare minimum is being repaired...
Actually on that same day while waiting to return via waterfront station at night, the Burrard Otter II was docked in the other berth, allowing a clear view into what the interior is like. From what I could see was near identical layout and interior that the Burrard Pacific Breeze has, but with a couple of revisions. The seating being the biggest one, which are the exact same seats that are also used on the buses. Also, it looked like the nice LED signs above the doors, providing cleaner/crisp writing.

Yup... she's an improvement on the Breeze for sure. I'm sure crews are looking forward to working on the Otter II though... especially given the size of the bridge on the Otter, which seems small to work in.

Was over at North Van this morning to catch a ride on the new Seabus, BURRARD OTTER II. Caught the first "in service" sailing from Lonsdale Quay at 11:15AM. Here's a picture of the newest addition to the fleet on her "maiden voyage" at 10:46. The BURRARD OTTER departed at 10:45... not sure if this was her last trip or not. - John H

Awesome photo, John. I just missed you as I was lingering beside the Quay, watching all the "important" people show up for the 10:45 exclusive sailing. That passenger sailing of the Otter was indeed her last revenue sailing of the day. Warning - Photo Heavy!Over my lunch break I did a roundtrip aboard the Burrard Otter II, to see what it's like. It ended up being sailing #7 and 8 for the vessel (taking into account the politician sailing). Here are some comments and photos: -Overall the vessel is very similar to the Burrard Pacific Breeze, with some minor changes and improvements. Some minor differences include the Lounge Seating (indeed very similar to the buses), bigger forward windows, and increased vibrations in the Passenger Cabin. -Like on the buses, the seating is made of the same old fireproof material, from the sole supplier - in the world - for marine upholstery. It is comfortable. -Forward views are a huge improvment. However there is the same problem as on the Breeze, that is the waves/wash splash onto the glass, requiring frequent cleaning. -Engine vibrations are very noticeable, especially in dock. This improves when making way, but it is not the same comfort level we have gotten used to on the other vessels. -There is a new entertainment system, which is okay. Similar to on the Coastals, they really go overboard on the safety announcement ("Mmm-USTER stations" - see video), but they are playing a neat video interviewing a Seabus captain. It is also viewable on the Translink Website. -The horn is exactly the same as on the Breeze. -The ship seems to handle really well, although it was a really calm day today. In addition, likely due to their extensive training, the person at the helm wasn't afraid to come in pretty "hot." From a passenger's point of view the manoeuvrability seems excellent. -Interesting to note- she is registered in Vancouver, as opposed to her running mates, which are registered in Victoria. I wonder if that has to do with the Provincial Government's (lack of) involvement in the construction of this vessel? Damen also had an engineer aboard today, making sure everything was running smoothly. It was also funny to see the attendants run away from their stations as soon as the vessel departed to until it arrived, likely heading up to the bridge to check out the view. I noticed a few other people doing roundtrips for fun, as well. In a nutshell the Otter II looks like a good product, and I'm happy to see it finally in service. Here's to many years of smooth sailing! ======= Photos & Videos: -I didn't have an expensive camera with me, just my phone, so the quality isn't as good as usual. I do have to apologize in advance for the bad lounge photos, as the attendant shooed me off pretty quickly - no lingering in between sailings. But the photos should at least give an idea of the look and feel of the vessel. All quiet, politicians about to board. They were doing their little feel-good ceremony at this time: Loading the politicians by Howe Sound Ferries, on Flickr First video, the arrival. Note the "Damen" at the end of the video, on the superstructure aft. On my trip to the lower Mainland last week, I took some time on the days I was there to take both my last ride on the Burrard Otter I and my first ride on the Burrard Otter II. Here are a couple of the shots I took of Otter I and II. All of them from Lonsdale Quay. All Photos are © CS16 Photography and may only be used with Permission from the Owner. To start, what might likely be my last shots of the Otter I in Service. Burrard Otter Approaching Lonsdale Quay. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Boarding (Perhaps for the last time?). She looks alright from a distance, but once you get up close, you see how worn down the poor thing is. Boarding the Burrard Otter at Lonsdale Quay. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Now onto the next day when I rode Otter II. It was pretty much the same idea as the previous day: Ride the Beaver over and take the Otter back. Burrard Otter II Enroute to Lonsdale Quay. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Getting closer. Burrard Otter II Enroute to Lonsdale Quay. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Finally, approaching the dock. (I would have had a boarding shot to end this, but none of them turned out that great) Burrard Otter II Approaching Lonsdale Quay. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Overall, I find the Otter II to be a very nice vessel. Her large windows give her a roomier feel when compared to the Burrard Pacific Breeze. Though her seating could be improved by adding a bit more cushioning. This is only a minor gripe though for a 10 minute crossing. Overall, she feels like a worthy successor to the SeaBus that shares her name and I personally wouldn't mind seeing a Burrard Beaver II someday down the road. Though it is nice having the original Beaver around to keep that legacy alive. Anyways, That's all for Now.

Here are a few photos in my collection of the Burrard Otter (I). A bit of a tribute, though her future is uncertain given the plebiscite. Another new Seabus will need to be built if they do need four boats, plus a vessel to replace the Beaver in a few years (wonder how they'll get the funding for that?). Regardless of the referendum outcome, the Otter isn't going anywhere soon, as the Beaver still needs a bit of a "TLU," which hasn't happened yet. She sees very limited service though; in April I think she was on for two days or so.
