It's simple, clean and elegant.

Today is the 35th anniversary of regular Sea Bus service.

What are they going to do with the other old seaBus? Scroll back in this thread, there are links to documents that state Translink's options. Formally, I don't think they've decided yet, but personally I think it'll end up either being sold or scrapped.

If, BC ferries buys it could they use it on Texada Island route while NIP helps on the Little River route and or a different route to help out or replace an old only passage ferry?

If, BC ferries buys it could they use it on Texada Island route while NIP helps on the Little River route and or a different route to help out or replace an old only passage ferry? No, Texada needs a vehicle ferry. There are over 1000 people, most of whom own cars, living on Texada, and they need a means of transportation to get their vehicles on and off the island. Plus the waters of the Malaspina/Georgia Straits are just too rough for a little thing like the Seabuses, which are designed for calm water service. Also, the Seabus vessel that's being retired is too old to be worth purchasing for BCF. A 35 year old ship is ready to be retired, not kept working. Even if it did replace another passenger only ferry, there aren't any that would need that kind of capacity that also work in areas with calm enough seas for the Burrard Otter. Areas where the seas are calmer, like the route between Langdale and Gambier/Keats Islands, don't need the capacity that the Seabus can handle, and rougher areas where the capacity is actually needed tend to be prone to rougher conditions and would therefore need to have a vessel that can take those kinds of seas, as well as having a large cargo capacity . If Translink makes some radical decision to start a route to Bowen Island and West Van or whatever, then they could use the old Seabus, but I don't see that coming anytime soon, what with terminal construction and maintenance costs, and the history of unsuccessful ferry operations to those areas.

I rode the repainted SeaBus the day before yesterday, and other than the new paint, everything seems unchanged except that the faint smell of marine fuel that used to be noticeable inside the ship seems to be gone. Her interior remains the same.

Formally, I don't think they've decided yet, but personally I think it'll end up either being sold or scrapped. Perhaps a new career in Hong Kong harbour? Or, another harbour that needs a ferry for footies. Just a thought. The older SeaBus ferries still look futuristic to me.

So I just got off that repainted SeaBus. This is one of those looks good from afar paint jobs where the lines run into one another, the lines aren't straight and the curves anything but smooth. Certainly not the most serious of problems, but nonetheless it comes off as sloppy.
Any word on the construction, or any lack there of, on the new SeaBus?

An RFP for the construction of another SeaBus has been released. Haven't heard anything more about it, but I'm hoping the guys over at the CPTDB will have the info when the contract is released.

On July 5th both of the old SeaBus's were in service. I have photos. Obviously, the BPB was not in service. I was en route to Vancouver airport at the beginning of my current vacation in Europe.

I was on the SeaBus, August 1st. The BPB and Otter were running at the time. I presume that hasn't changed...

Burrard Otter was in service. It's pretty rare for her to see revenue service nowadays, isn't it? TransLink continues to operate the SeaBus service with all three vessels alternating evenly. Sometimes with all three in one day (two daytime boats, one night boat)

I guess translink is going ahead with the replacement of the Burrard Beaver Otter. It seems that the Otter Beaver is getting some significant ugrades; a sign that she's gonna stay in service for awihle.
The new paint on the Otter Beaver looks great!

Actually, it is the B. Beaver that has the new livery. The B. Otter has yet to be redone. It is my understanding the the B. Otter will be the original that gets 'the boot' if and when another new SeaBus is commissioned.

Yeah! I think the Burrard Beaver is not going to retired. But I do think that Burrard Otter is going to be retired. By the way, what is translink doing to the Burrard Beaver because I saw her in dry dock today?

The Otter is being retired. She's the one of the two originals that's seen the most wear and tear. She also happens to be the one I was riding aboard when she hit the dock during the Olympics. I wonder if that had any say in it?
