Here are some photos from Tsawwassen from the week... This makes no sense to me: They say 'no stopping', but what does this guy do? I think this red paint is new. That bad grammar really gets to me... Berth 4 construction from a distance... Mr. Hahn's banners are getting full of seabird poop. The upgrade advisory boards: Just a little bit busy The work barge A work boat. I don't think it's very seaworthy... Not the best picture on Earth, but it shows what's there....

My apologies for not getting any photos of this....but I have some good news.
At Tsawwassen terminal, the rebuilding of the overhead walkway at Berth 3 started today. The beginning of the "tunnel" that leads into the waiting room was put into place, and the rest of the walkway was waiting aboard a barge nearby.

The beginning of the "tunnel" that leads into the waiting room was put into place, and the rest of the walkway was waiting aboard a barge nearby. What does it look like? Similar to the blue-painted ones there, or closer in appearance to the ramps at Departure Bay?

It's pretty much identical to the ones at Departure Bay, and the one that's used at Berth 2 at Tsawwassen as well....White, with portholes up the sides. I believe that these overhead walkways are still the original walkways and were simply refurbished in the terminal parking lot.

Ah, so that's why no all glass walk-ways like other berths, they are simple refurbished. That's a good thing (throw back to the past) and a bad thing at the same time.

The berth-4 work on Oct.15, 2010 involved Vancouver Pile Driving operating a bucket in the water. It appeared that they were looking for large boulders in front of the berth, and were then just moving those boulders to the side by the dolphin. This went on for a couple of hours, when I was there. Here are 2 videos of the process: www.facebook.com/v/447356458646www.facebook.com/v/447358668646And a few stills from the scene: and some pics of the general construction area: - the new passenger walkway for berth-3. - the barges with the construction materials. -------------------------- Nice evening view. And Mt. Baker is overseeing the activity at Tsawwassen terminal:

Some photos from Tsawwassen from Friday, the 5th of November from the 17:00 sailing of the Coastal Celebration. The Raider, a work tug working on the replacement of berth 4. The new berth structure. The new foot passenger walkway. The new accessway for terminal workers. The dolphin pier/breakwater of Berth 5: The quay. The terminal, almost in it's entirety. The terminal in it's entirety.

Tsawwassen Causeway on November 20th, sprinkled with slush: They've painted a nice wintery design on the windows of the quay. Inside the quay, all decorated with wreaths. I've never before seen a unit empty here. How long has this memorial been here? It's in memory of ship workers lost at sea. The inside of the foot-bridge to berth 4. It's sitting in some unused vehicle lanes: The footie building. An uncommon view of the terminal, as pictured between berth 1 and berth 2, looking back into the terminal. Berth 1. Berth 2. They've taken advantage of the spare drop-trailer vehicles, and are using them as snow-plows. Berth 3. The new berth 4, as seen from the footie bridge to the berth 5 waiting room. Not sure how visible it is, but this is a fire-escape plan for the berth 2 waiting area. The empty berth 2 waiting area. The arrivals escalator. The overpass over the exit lanes. That's it for my Tsawwassen tour. More to come when the new berth 4 opens!

I haven't been through Tsawwassen terminal for over a month....does anyone know if the berth 3 overhead walkway is anywhere near being completed?

Last time I was there, they were testing out the new apron for the overhead walkway. Well, not exactly "new", more like refurbished I suppose. This was around about on the 10th of December or so, and it still looked like they had to finish the interior of the walkway itself. I wouldn't be surprised though if it was all back up and running in time for the holidays. If not, then definitely early in the New Year at least.

Very stylish. I like the blue/white paint scheme in there, and the portholes give it a slightly nautical theme. I still do like the berth 5 walkway the most though, with its floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

Tsawwassen terminal, January 23rd, 2011. All photos taken around 08:00. The SoBC in berth 2. The luggage area. QoAlberni hiding from the camera. I think BCFS takes us as a bunch of unintelligent numskulls. Who would need FIVE signs notifying them that yes, indeed there is an automatic door there‽‽‽‽‽
