I'll let you 2 guys decide who gets to keep Cy Peck. - but since Mr. DOT posted it 7 hours before John, I'd say he's the front runner. :)how about these three, Q of Tsawwassen, Delta Queen, and Cy Peck. I was going to suggest Alex Fraser, who sat with me at the innaugral of Queen of Oak Bay, but his name lives on as one of BC,s first modern bridges. :)mrdot. Queen of Burnaby - I'll start with my hometown. Cy Peck - Named after British Columbian Cyrus Wesley Peck , a recipient of the Victoria Cross and later an MLA in the Legistative Assembly. Spirit of Vancouver Island - Self-explanatory

I'll try one more time... three strikes and I'm out! Queen of BurnabyPrincess Marguerite II - I agree, most Princess ships don't count as car or truck ferries, but this one does for sure:) Spirit of Vancouver Island

Just to clarify for the herd of cats, that the name-game is intended to reflect what the ferry itself was named in reference to. - This isn't a 2-degrees-of-separation game. So if you think that it's most logical that the ferry Vashon was named for the island, then that qualifies for the island category. - I think it's a stretch to say that the ferry Vashon was named in reference to James Vashon. I quite agree. Same with the Bainbridge. I'd probably argue though that the second Kitsap (1980 version) is probably named more for the Chief of the same name, especially given sister ferry Sealth.Having been originally named City of Vancouver kind of removes all doubt as well. ;D Indeed! Here's my entry for today...(and spanning a century, no less)
City of Sacramento

Later on today, I'll modify the 1st post in this thread in order to keep a running-tab on which ship names have been used so far. - I'll try to keep it updated regularly.
-------------- Also, on the matter of a ship's multiple names I'm ok with names used when a ship was outside our local region. - But sometimes this is moot, because in the case of City of Sacramento, I'm pretty sure that the ship used that name in Puget Sound service, before Peabody renamed her as Kahloke. - and some ships brought their "named in another region" names with them and used them for a while (or always) while in service here.

Yep, she used that name while on Puget Sound. Peabody didn't even consider the name change until work was well underway in refurbishing/rebuilding her...in fact, somewhere I've got the article dated about 1953 where someone is asking Captain Peabody about what name the ferry is going to have...If I turn that up I'll post it.

- Wahkiakum - Martha S - Guemes
While Wahkiakum County was named after Chief Wahkiakum of the Chinook, it is most likely that the ferry is named after Wahkiakum County itself.
Martha S, the Keller Ferry in Eastern Washington, was named in honor of Martha Shain, the wife of State Highway Director Clarence Shain at the time it was put in service.
Guemes must have been named after the island it serves.

Queen of Cumberland Sonia - This is a name used prior to coming to our waters, but that's fine right? As for who she is.. she's this pretty girl in Greece. Sunshine Coast Queen - does this count for geographical feature?

Sunshine Coast Queen - does this count for geographical feature? ...it's all good to me. If we can accept something vague like "North Island", then for sure "Sunshine Coast" should be ok too. And if Scotian's good, then Sonia's good too.

Darn it. I was holding that one in reserve.... I presume that Lorraine S. was Lorraine Savoie, likely mother or grandmother of Albert & Leo Savoie.

In re: your lists in the first post in the thread: "Chelan something" from the WSF site: "From the Chelan language: Tsill-ane, meaning "deep water." The tribe lived along Lake Chelan, which is very deep. A city, county and river also bear the name." "Leschi something": Chief Leschi of the Nisqually Tribe was an important figure in native rebellion in the Washington Territory. He was a leader of those native people opposed to letting the US Government take all of their land from them.

Queen of Prince Rupert - Named after the town, not the prince:) John Atlantic Burr - If we're taking previous names, I guess this one would count. He was a Utah pioneer. Nimpkish - Named after the lake or river on Vancouver Island, I assume.

:)on further thought on place named ferries, the Aabury Park, later City of Sacramanto, later Kaloke, and finally Langdale Queen, on which I did one scarey shift!, would make quite a subject matter.mrdot.

Here's my next entry to start off a new day:
Powell River Queen Frances Barkley - She was a car ferry until she came to BC where she was converted to passenger/cargo only, so if that disqualifies her, let me know and I'll try to think of another one:) Kwuna - Named after Kwuna point beside Alliford Bay.
