I have fond memories of waving to my father leaving Bowen Sunday evenings on the Bainbridge... but I'm not too sure that many Bowen residents would welcome her back from the grave... Sorry, 'elwharust'...I know you're just musing... as am I.

Just sitting here at Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria when the Coho went by. Sailing on here next week. Checked the schedule to read that she is overnighter here for the summer. Passed by the terminal as we went to our accommodation. The lot looked quite full!

Truly remarkable upkeep to this beautiful vessel. Blackball should win some sort of recognition for the best-kept vintage passenger/car ferry still operating in North America and maybe even world-wide. And to think the Pandemic almost killed this commercial venture off. Great shots of this beautiful old girl! Now where's the Maggie?

We were pitching and yawing once we were about five miles out of Victoria. Coming back was worse, but good fun. The men's room was surprisingly immaculate. Lots of beer selections! CBSA did not ask for my ArriveCan app.

I cleared US Customs twice going down. Weird! Once in Victoria and again in Port Angeles? I had the same experience back in 2015. The first 'clearance' is for immigration, and the second is for customs, I think? Seems overly bureaucratic but sometimes that extra scrutiny is worthwhile.

For Amtrak, you go through US Immigration at Pacific Central Station in Vancouver on the southbound trips to Seattle. The train also stops at Blaine where US Customs agents board to read your declaration forms and take them.
On my trip from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan before 2010, the full process was done at PR with no further inspection in Alaska. Interesting to note, the little piece of Canadian real estate from the terminal building to the dock at PR becomes USA for departing passengers. After the ferry sails, it becomes Canada again and Canadian Customs agents welcome the arrivals.
WSF follows the same procedures BBF do (on their trips to Port Angeles) for USA bound sailings from Sidney.
At CYVR, the full US Customs process is done for airline passengers going to USA destinations.
At CYYJ, you go through US Customs upon arriving at USA destinations.

Has bc ferries ever tried to buy the coho? No. Back in 1961 they bought Blackball's entire Canadian operations, but not this international route. I do not believe BC Ferries has ever shown any interest in a route connecting a BC port with an American port.
