Tomorrow, I will attempt to get a photo of the MV Coho leaving Victoria, from the vantage point of the observation deck in the Fisgard Lighthouse. Has anyone done or tried this before ? Seen it before, but didn't have a camera. The ship won't pass all that closely, but you do get to see it. A decent zoom will be useful.

On September 2, 2011, I was at Fisgard lighthouse, near Colwood BC. - Coho emerged from Victoria harbour on her 10:30am sailing to Port Angeles. We were far away and the morning sun was in a challenging place, but I steadied my camera on the lightkeeper's house railing and snapped some photos from this angle. Here she is doing a quick disappearing act behind an island. Heading into Juan de Fuca strait Turning a bit to starboard. With HMCS Oriole

My colleague "Louise" is a boater and a wonderful photographer. - previously, she's taken photos that I've put on this forum of the Nimpkish at Shearwater, and she also gave us our very first photos of the Queen of Saanich in Johnstone Strait. Today, she gave me some Coho photos from Juan de Fuca Strait.

I was in Victoria's inner-harbour on September 1, 2011 and I saw and photographed the MV Coho. - I was enjoying a pickle-boat harbour tour, and later I was wandering the floats in front of the Empress Hotel. ....so those were my vantage points ps: it was a cold and cloudy day. ---------------------------- We about to go under the blue-bridge, and I can see Coho in the distance. Different angles of the Coho view, as we pass by her: - the old CPR terminal is just forward of her bow ------------- A look at the disembarkation area at Victoria terminal.

:)it's been many years since mrdot and family have done the sidney-anacortes route, and we were thinking of doing it in my retirement years, but not having the hahn goldplated pension package deal, this might have to be put on the back burner! I think my Rosemary can still do her weekly Pt. Roberts choir in the delightful little church that we are now regular attenders! We did not know how provedential these four Thorne passports have become! There better not be any surcharge on the point! :)mrdot.

I didn't notice this article in a scan of this thread... but it takes so long for things to load on my computer, hopefully I didn't scroll past it. A really worthwhile look at the Coho and Black Ball, from 1965. www.cohoferry.com/media/Black_Ball_Story.pdf

I took the MV Coho from Port Angeles to Victoria on October 28, 2010. At this time of year, there are 2 daily round-trips. Our trip departed the Port of Angels at 2:00pm. Photos and comments on the next few posts by me..... --------------- Arriving in PA town from Port Townsend the night before, we were surprised that the road was a 4-lane freeway between Sequim and Port Angeles. Busy place. We found this sign amusing, mainly because we always associate those words with a certain company with a mating-slugs logo, not with another ferry company: The simple bridge and berth structure. The footie-building is on the left, and you can see the overhead walkway that connects to the ferry. Traffic arriving from Victoria at this time of year includes many snowbirds on their way south for the Winter. The holding area at Port Townsend Angeles (thanks Dan for spotting the result of my brain cramp): - the vehicle toll booth is the left-side of the building. The vehicle entrance is very poorly signed, so it's easy to miss when you're driving up the street. - Customs/Immigration for arrivals is on the right-side. Port Angeles breakwater visible in the background: That iconic company flag:

Here is "Phil's Phish" arriving at Port Angeles around noon. - she takes a wide path to set herself up for the dance into the berth. At this point, she's ready to toss a line from her bow, to the jetty. She'll then go astern, pivoting on the turning-dolphin while the bow rope goes tight. Here's video #1: www.facebook.com/v/457548593646Here's video #2: www.facebook.com/v/457554608646Here's video #3: www.facebook.com/v/457559178646Here's video #4: - notice how fast those stern-doors open. www.facebook.com/v/457561003646Berthed, and ready for the slow process of disembarkation. (slow, because of traffic backing up while they go through customs/immigration).
