oh that is awesome. The only one of that class I have not been on! A pain to go all the way to Bremerton to ride her so I might have to do a trip to the San Juan's this summer! Now if they only put her on a decent schedule. Too early to say which slot Kaleetan will fill if assigned to the islands this summer. I say "if" because we are still a long ways from July, and I never take the Maintenance Schedule as something written in stone - plenty of time for WSF to change their minds. Like you, though, I am hoping they stick to the plan and get Kaleetan back in her home waters even if it's only for a month.

She looks like she has a cool interior and being she might be up here it would be cool to get a trip on her. But I guess we will have to wait and see.

I take it she would probably be taking over for a Super class? If she on the run in the summer unless they have like three Supers on the Anacortrs run!

WSF normally has 3 supers on the Anacortes route for the summer: - Summer 2013 & 2012 was Elwha, Hyak and Yakima I think it is Yakima or Hyak that is going to to the shipyard for a long-term refit project.

Yakima's going to be out for five weeks, but that doesn't really count as long-term... I'd guess paint may be involved if a boat that big is going to be out during the summer. Haven't bothered to look for the contract yet, though.

Began my day over in Bremerton videotaping ferries come into the dock. Started with the Kaleetan in the afternoon and then after the 4:20 departure, I left the ferry dock and headed to my sister's house to briefly charge my Sony BetacamSP battery pack (even though it really didn't need it), then back to attend a WSF Bremerton community advisory meeting, where I got a chance to meet David Moseley and Marta Coursey, among other WSF dignitaries and state officials. Shot over two hours' worth of video all told, and went through four BetacamSP videotape cassettes. Onwards: M.V. Kaleetan, Washington State Ferries by Loowit Imaging - Steve Rosenow, Photographer, on Flickr Filming for my documentary I've been working on. Vessel is of course the almighty Kaleetan! M.V. Kaleetan, Washington State Ferries by Loowit Imaging - Steve Rosenow, Photographer, on Flickr Have never shot the Kaleetan from that angle, and today was a first. I like the look this photo gives, kinda gives you a sense of scale. And finally: M.V. According to the Kitsap Sun, the Kaleetan is out of service until necessary repairs are made. They're citing WSF officials in saying it's a general alarm issue but aren't sure of its source. Hmmmm... Interesting!

Eagerly awaiting the day the Kaleetan returns home to Bremerton. I sure miss the ol' girl.

Eagerly awaiting the day the Kaleetan returns home to Bremerton. I sure miss the ol' girl. I understand. She was in the San Juan Islands for 25 years before she went to Bremerton, so we're enjoying having her "home" too.

How much longer will the Kalletain be in the San Juans? The Kaleetan will be in the San Juans until September 9, then it will go to Eagle Harbor to keep Hiyu company (aka get some maintenance done) and then it will be back at Bremerton the following week. (Sept. 16th) This is all according to the maintenance schedule, and is very likely to change.

Hopefully that date dosent change cause I still havent got down to Anacortes. Everywhere has been so busy with events, traffic has been busy at the borders the ferries out of Anacortes have been busy so I am hoping maybe after Labour Day things will calm down and I can get on the Kaleetan the last weekend she is on that route if I dont get on her sooner.

Some more pictures of the Kaleetan in the San Juans, taken August 14-16th from various vantage points: This first one shows her departing Anacortes fro Firday Harbor, as seen from the beach at Anacortes: MV Kaleetan en-route to Friday Harbor - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Passing the Hyak, on which we were. Well, Karl, I regret to inform you that you have once again dilly-dallied, shilly-shallied, and generally fooled about with asking questions about parking; your ship has sailed without you. Again.

Right place at the right time.... Was up passing the viewpoint on Admiral Way today and spotted the Kaleetan being towed by a couple of tugs from Vigor to Eagle Harbor: (One with trees and one without so many trees) Well, I'm pretty sure I have the right ship.......

2013-10-18: the sun actually did come out later in the afternoon on the same day I took the foggy photos above. So, I trekked back out to Manchester and snapped some more photos of Kaleetan and Kitsap transiting Rich Passage. Here's Kaleetan emerging from the pass on her way back to Seattle
