And they were incandescent bulbs with the hood (like you can see in shots of the Kalakala's car deck), not the fluorescents like they have now. Nearly identical postcard shot as the Yakima, but with the Kaleetan. Wow. I'll be damned. Now I'm curious as to when they moved to fluorescent lighting. I wonder if there's any car deck shots of the Kaleetan when new, or when she had that style. As for that postcard, that's an awesome shot. I have one of those, won off of an eBay auction.

I wonder if there are pics floating around of the original fluorescent light layout in the passenger cabin. From the pics I've been seeing on all the supers, not one of them have the original setup (including Hyak). The hooded incandescent lighting in the car deck was pretty horrible back in the 90's.

The Elwha went fluorescent... probably in the 1990-91 refit. The Yakima and Kaleetan... I think went fluorescent in their MLU's in 1999 and 1998 respectively. The Hyak, I believe, held on until her elevator was added. I preferred the incandescent lights on deck, myself... except the vibration on the boats killed them rapidly. I think I changed about fifty bulbs in the wings one summer (because they were the ones I could reach without a ladder while underway).

The Kaleetan has now picked up the Puyallup's duties starting with the 10:00PM out of Kingston. The Puyallup is now heading southbound for Eagle Harbor (I would think berth 3 (the one with the auto-type apron that is not perpendicular to the shore)).

1)No, I am saying in the future. 2) Not this summer the Chelan is on the F-V-S route with the Issaquah.1. A Super and the Walla Walla is the right combination for the summer. What are they gonna do with the Kaleetan anyways? She would probably be in maintenance or Standby.

1. A Super and the Walla Walla is the right combination for the summer. What are they gonna do with the Kaleetan anyways? She would probably be in maintenance or Standby. Nope. I'd rather see the Kitsap go to FVS, which will bump the Klahowya for standby. Last year any many years before the Kaleetan and Walla Walla were the summer boats and that was ideal. The Kaleetan being replaced by the Kitsap means: 1. Less cabin space for commuters 2. Less outdoor space for tourists visiting Bremerton or doing the scenic trip 3. Less car space 4. Less seagulls to feed for the tourists That's why the Kaleetan should stay. FVS also deserves three Issys (Issaquah, Kitsap and Sealth) during the Summer.

Interesting to see the fountains working this earlyu, normally they don't have them up until May. Interesting to see things sped up like that. One of these days I'm going to do a little bit of timelapse with the D5100.

Cheese, if you don't have anything constructive to say, please do not post. Consider this a warning. To answer Karl, it looks like Kaleetan is scheduled to be in the islands from mid July to mid August. That, of course, can change between now and then, but it's kind of exciting to see Kaleetan coming back to the San Juans even if it's for a short time. I believe the last time Kaleetan pulled regular duty up there was the summer of 2009, but I could be wrong about that.

That was sarcasm. I did a link to maintenance schedule with the word "No". Sarcasm may have been what you were intending, but that's not how it came off. I have found that sarcasm, when used correctly, is something that works much better in a live person to person discussion. It's very difficult to evoke that emotion in an internet forum chat room, which is the reason I try to avoid it in these types of discussion boards. Sarcasm is also a tool better employed with close friends or people you really know well, and who also know you. This is a very public discussion board with a lot of people you don't know well, and who also don't know you well. I would suggest avoiding sarcasm in the future on this forum. It makes life easier if we don't have to guess what your intent is.

oh that is awesome. The only one of that class I have not been on! A pain to go all the way to Bremerton to ride her so I might have to do a trip to the San Juan's this summer! Now if they only put her on a decent schedule.
