I like this photo because it shows the contrast in vessel sizes. Can you imagine seeing a JM-II in Friday Harbor or in Thatcher Pass?

That's a really nice photo there. It's amazing to think that fifty years ago, the smallest boat in this picture was among the largest in the fleet. And now, next to the current largest vessel, it looks absolutely tiny!

2013-11-26: here are a few scenic and/or artistic shots of MV Wenatchee from today. I was in Seattle for an interview this morning, and decided to do a little ferry riding while I was out, and ended up on MV Wenatchee heading to Bainbridge Island. I was the last car on - made the sailing with 30 seconds to spare. The whole trip was on a whim so it wouldn't have broken my heart if I had missed the sailing; nevertheless, it was pretty cool to just drive right up, and onto the boat without any kind of a wait. nice view of the city as we pulled away from the dock the view out the aft windows when departing Seattle is definitely worth the price of admission The Christmas Star is already mounted on the funnel - probably looks neat at night all lit up great city skyline view from Wenatchee's Sun Deck Silhouetted "pickle forks"

Some pictures of the Wenatchee - February 23rd. Nothing specia, just took a ride over to Bainbridge and back on the Tacoma. Lots of photo ops with the fisheye though! The wake and pickelforks, sailing away from Seattle: MV Wenatchee outbound from Slip 3, Seattle with the Skyline rising over the waters of Puget Sound - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr An HDR of the car deck and wake as we left Seattle. I like how you can see the steel structure of the car deck. I also like how all the lines lead to the outside of the ferry and the Seattle skyline. Car deck and Wake, MV Wenatchee - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Another one of the wake with the safety nets: Wake, MV Wenatchee - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Another one of the wake with a super-distorted horizon. Mr Horn, I have no clue if this picture is straight or not, I don't know how to check and I don't care whatsoever. Wake, MV Wenatchee - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr And the last one is going to be, you guessed it, the wake! No, it's just an HDR of the car deck and superstructure. The Wenatchee's horn, as blown by request from yours truly in the morning on March 23rd. Not sounding as good as her older sister's but still very nice for a WSF.

The Wenatchee was the first ferry that my new camera and lens saw, last Sunday morning (3-23) on a roundtrip to Bainbridge Island. photo heavyThat lens is wide. This is the Solarium when departing Seattle: Arriving at Bainbridge: The Library: Even wider: departing Bainbridge The wake: Approaching Seattle: The bridge wing and Eliott Bay: My favorite on that trip. The sunstars turn out great! Even more sunstar playing with the nameplate:

The mess is over! Finally! The Klahowya departed Eagle Harbor just a few minutes ago. I wonder whether she's headed to Seattle to help with the traffic or if she's going straight to Vashon to replace the Sealth.

The Bulwark Name on a busy sailing to Bainbridge - May 2nd. Now that I look back to the old bulwark name shots I used to take at 18mm and compare those with the new wider-angle ones it's night and day. TOKINA POWER! (here Low Light Mike, is that satisfying enough for new ways to describe my Tokina photos?) The description is Horn-approved. - I have 2 words for you: "Well Done" However, I await the eventual awesomeness of Terrific-Tokina-Tokitae.

For those who missed it, Wenatchee looked awesome during the Maritime Festival on Saturday. She looked as if she could have been part of the festivities! Wenatchee by Theo Anderson Photography, on Flickr

The WENATCHEE has her pilot order: pilot.kleinsystems.com/public/PPA/PPA_CurrentTraffic.aspx07-29-2014, 1400, From Anacortes to Vancouver Dry Dock. STC ( With or With Out) N. We'll see if the same was done aboard the PUYALLUP when she went to the same yard. She sailed under her own power from Puget Sound to Anacortes and a tug towed her north to VDD.

So I guess that means an overnight arrival in Vancouver?? Darn it! Guess I will have to see her while she's there or when she leaves if it's at a descent time!

The WENATCHEE is on her way north under her own power. I guess that the CHELAN brought the Canadian pilot with her to Anacortes for the WENATCHEE.

If the Wenatchee keeps going at her current pace (around 19 kn) then she should be entering Vancouver Harbor sometime this evening around 6. To Metro Vancouver residents, grab your cameras and go out enjoy the sun in Stanley Park!
