The Chelan will be on the Anacortes to Sidney, BC route from November 12 to November 30. Check the vessel watch. She's in service right now. Ah. But the schedule says she isn't. But I do believe you.

Is the Chelan top heavy compared to the other 124 car Issaquah class? Since, she is SOLAS certificate and the other 124 car Issaquah class are not SOLAS certificate.

As for the maintenance schedule, do note they're approximate on their dates as they are only marked in one-week increments. There's bound to be a touch of flex in there.

Does she handle turning and heavy weather the same or different compared to the other 124 car Issaquah class? 2. What are you talking about?

What are you talking about? He's saying that because the maintenance schedule is not written day by day but week by week, it is not extremely precise so dates are approximates. So the dates that you give may differ by one or two days.

The Chelan is currently southbound at the entrance of Puget Sound, about to meet the Kennewick. She's going at a little more than 17kn (on average) and should be at Seattle in about 2 hours. She'll probably replace the Kaleetan starting with the 7:55 out of Seattle. I'm speculating that the Kaleetan will replace the Puyallup on the 10:00 out of Kingston and 10:45 out of Edmonds tonight.

Yep. An alert went out a couple days ago on WSF's Vessel Alerts page saying the same. Gonna be a fun week on that run. Thank God I don't have any cross-sound voyages to make!

The boats never run full (talking cars) in the winter and even though the passenger space is less the commuters can stand it. There were not a whole lot of complaints when the Sealth was on the route earlier and she has less car space than the Chelan. But for us ferry nerds it's something that's pretty rare now, so I'll probably do a trip on her!

I've been on quite a few winter crossings on the Chelan two years ago when it was on the Bremerton run, most of them were packed or standing room only.

Chelan is now at Colman dock slip 1, with the Kaleetan probably heading for 2 and the Wenatchee probably heading for 3.

Colman dock is full right now. Chelan at berth 1, Kaleetan at 2, Wenatchee at 3 and the Melissa Ann and Rachel Marie at the POF dock. I expect the Kaleetan to depart anytime soon.

2. You're viewing the spring schedule. And as Compdude would say, it's like a long term weather forecast. Here's what I expect to happen when the transition to the summer schedule is made, if the maintenance schedule stays the same. - The E-State is done with her maintenance at EH for the schedule transition, she goes up in the SJs for the II and passes the torch of maintenance to the Sealth. - The Sealth comes down to F-V-S and passes the torch to the Chelan - The Chelan goes up in the SJs to become the Sidney boat, the Elwha moves to domestic service only. Remember that when the summer schedule begins, a boat is added to the SJs. Look at this. Look at the following vessels; Chelan, Tillikum, Evergreen state and the Sealth.

On June 16th: - E-State is done with maintenance - Sealth moves from II to FVS - Chelan FVS to Sidney * - Elwha Sidney/SJs to SJs only * *=If those moves are not made, the SJs will lack one boat and be obliged to keep the Spring schedule, which will greatly impact traffic. And later: Tilikum comes back after trials, put on standby Wenatchee comes back at BI, Puyallup to Ed-Ki, Walla Walla to Bremerton, Kitsap to FVS, Klahowya to standby.

Those of you who have a laptop will probably know what I'm talking about: Ever gotten halfway thru a photo post, then you accidentally touch the trackpad and click on a link and then you have to start your post over again? Well that just happened to me, so I'll keep this short and only post a few good pictures because I don't feel like copy/pasting all the pics again. Anyway, I went on a trip to Lopez Island last week, from Monday to Thursday, so I got a lot of photos of ferries. These ones of the Chelan are just a few of the photos I got. I took pics of all the San Juan ferries. We got up super-early (4am) on Monday so we could get up to Lopez as early as possible. Getting to Anacortes at 6am, the ferries were just waking up. Here the Chelan is moving from the tie-up slip where she slept to slip 2 at Anacortes to eat her morning breakfast of tasty cars. I will post pics of the other four San Juan ferries tomorrow.

A couple of views of Chelan, taken from Sidney BC at noon today. - I'm on the public walkway, south of the terminal. This one is taken from beside the boat ramp. It gives a nice almost unobstructed view. This one from a bit further south, to give a good angle of the ship, Sidney Spit, and Mount Baker. --------------- I was there to shoot video of the ship's loading and departure. I'll edit and post that sometime in the coming weeks. ps: the sailing was pretty full today.

Here's my video of Chelan at Sidney BC. - August 5, 2013 at Noon.
She finishes unloading, then loads for her noon departure. Then she departs...
- funny moment at 0:37 of the video, where a guy walks down the beach, under the loading bridge.

Some more of Chelan with Mt. Baker, shot from Sidney BC at Noon on August 5, 2013. Plenty of marine traffic for Chelan to pass through, on her way to the end of the spit The tip of Sidney Spit; it's part of Gulf Islands National Park Behind the spit

My final set of Chelan at Sidney, at noon on August 5, 2013. - photos are from the public walkway, south of the terminal. This is a good spot to see the ferry. (north side is nice too) The pickle-forks fill up fast, when that's the only outside space. - cameo by Mt. Baker The terminal is next to a public boat ramp, hence the small boat in the right-side of this photo. Sidney Island in the background
