I just rode the Chelan on the Clinton to Mukilteo run. Thursday night one of the staff said the usual boat, the Kittitas, was having potable water issues and they pulled it from service.

The Chelan is hanging out at Lake Union Dry Dock. I seem to recall that getting an Issaquah class ferry into/out of Lake Union requires some creativity with the locks due to the beam is that true?

Well, the large lock is only 80 feet wide, so it's a tight fit with the Issaquah class being 78' on the beam. I'd always been told they had to do some creative maneuvering, but that just says it needs to be careful. I'm kind of bummed I didn't get a chance to watch it. Perhaps I'll get lucky and see it on the way out.

I had some time to kill before the next boat to Bainbridge, so I went down to Eastlake Ave and found the Chelan Lots of painting going on.

The Chelan is going to be towed from Lake union to Eagle Harbor tomorrow. WSF says that she will be going through the locks around 7AM. Large locks are 80' wide; Chelan is 78'8".

Q13 Fox News was reporting the Chelan going through the locks live.

Great pictures, heck of a tight fit. I recall a story about one of the Iowa class battleships (108') transiting the Panama canal (110'). The captain made the crew use all the spare mattresses to make sure they didn't scratch her. Doesn't look like that happened here. ;-)

I was just looking at some pics of the Chelan entering Ballard Locks. She looks terrific, like new.

Chelan heading off to Anacortes yesterday Heh. Even though they're the crew's cars, interesting to note they still parked within the lines...

I notice it has the square solarium windows now. Were these added in the recent stint at Lake Union, or did I not notice them earlier?

Here is my tour of the Chelan. I won't be doing a second one after her refit, but will be doing an elevator ride, and a departure or two on the Islands, something to look forward to

I notice it has the square solarium windows now. Were these added in the recent stint at Lake Union, or did I not notice them earlier? New this year. They're actually overlays on top of the original framework instead of the gasket-lined inserts (which always leaked). A much needed improvement.

Is it just me, or does the "Flying T" logo look bigger than before she got repainted?

The noon sailing is also direct to Anacortes which I think is more popular than the evening sailing which makes a stop at Friday Harbor. It will be a long night for the crew of the Chelan as she is doing the Elwha's late trip from Anacortes to Friday Harbor and back with all the stops as the Elwha is having mechanical problems. That sailing is suppose to leave at 8:20pm but it will be late as the Chelan dosent arrive till like 8:30pm from Sidney!
