Was she heading up Malaspina Strait ? This was taken near Gower Point, so she was in the Strait of Georgia.

Two shots of the Seaspan tug Haisea taken at or near MK Bay Marina near Kitamaat Village, BC. I am unsure if Seaspan has this tug based here now, or it has been sold, but is still displaying Seaspan 'branding'. On the other side of Kitimat Harbour there is a Smit Marine Tug base. I had thought that Smit's BC Operations had been taken over by Seaspan, but apparently it was only a sale of some Smit assets. I am led to believe that SMIT only handed over a portion of their operations to Seaspan, while maintaining their own company and their own branding (SMIT's New Westminster base continues to operate to the full extent it operated prior to the "sale"). I had thought, like you Jim, that Seaspan had done yet another 'hostile takeover' similar to what happened with Rivtow, but it doesn't seem that way. Late Edit: Haisea is not listed in Seaspan's tug fleet list, available here: www.seaspan.com/seaspanmarine/fleet/fleet_list.php

The Haisea is still owned by Seaspan, it is operated by Seaspan and the Haisla first nations in a joint partner ship in Kitimat. Also Seaspan only purchased Smit's Coastal Fleet of tug and barges (which they scrapped most of the Tugs the aquired and some old barges). What they really wanted was Smit's contracts. Smit retained control of all their Fleet docking assets and continues to operate them as such.

Is that Seaspan logo seen in this photo unique to this vessel? Also, I wonder what business this tug is engaged in here, seeing as Smit has the ship assist work to itself, I think?

Yes it is unique to this vessel only. I'm not sure exactly as to the work, but it is stationed in kitimat.

On July 7 I caught Seaspan Foam passing Seaspan Cavalier and Charles H Cates XX as she returns to Ogden Point after meeting freighter Aqualegacy in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Seaspan Cavalier had brought fuel barge Petrobulker to refuel cruise ship Grand Princess.
