Seaspan's Haisea Guardian moored @ MK Bay Marina, Kitimat, BC - 2 April 2014. I gather that the Haisla First Nation - Seaspan partnership here in Kitimat has opted to swap out the Haisea for this larger tug. The Haisea Guardian was previously the Seaspan Guardian, I think? photo © WCK-JST Flickr

Seaspan Raven @ Allied Shipyard, North Vancouver - 30 June 2016. So there is already a 'Raven' on this coast. No doubt, in the not to distant future, this 'Raven' will meet up with the new Salish Raven (and not, hopefully, at the end of a tow line). This is a macho looking tug ... © WCK-JST by Jim Thorne, on Flickr

Seaspan Queen and an unknown assist tug maneuver a railbarge in Nanaimo Harbour. Barge is carrying 15 cars for the E&N, arriving on a Wednesday instead of the usual Monday morning thanks to the holidays. December 28, 2016 Seaspan Queen ~ Nanaimo Harbour by Chris City, on Flickr

Seaspan tug, Seaspan Champion, hauls a rail car barge into Vancouver Harbour c 2000. This is scanned from a negative shot by my brother, mrdot . I assume these are rail cars coming from the E&N Railway on Vancouver Island. Questions for people that might know ( Chris City ?): - Can you say for certain that this is E&N freight? - Who was running the E&N at that time? I think the year was 2000, but it might have been the previous year. - When did the Tilbury Terminal open? I assume this barge would be berthed at the old CP terminal near Canada Place. © Mr DOT by mrdot., on Flickr

In 2000 RailAmerica was operating the E&N but I believe all E&N rail traffic to the mainland went by Carrier Princess to Tilbury, not sure when Tilbury opened but it's been quite a few years now. I think this barge is from one of the coastal mills and is probably headed for the BNSF barge slip on the waterfront off Centennial Road. BNSF served those mills up until 2005 and that was when the SRY slip on Annacis Island opened and they acquired all the contracts from BNSF.

A trio of SRY SW900's begin unloading a railbarge with cars from the pulp mill in Crofton. Once this barge is unloaded and then reloaded the next barge will be moved in place and the process will be repeated, that barge will be destined for the E&N. Tug Seaspan Corsair keeps watch. Tug Seaspan Rogue and log barge Seaspan Survivor at Ladysmith after a trip along the westcoast of Vancouver Island. It took about 3 hours for the barge to take on enough water to tilt and dump the logs into the harbour.

Regarding Chris City's post above...
What are the elevated booths on a log barge called? Obviously not a wheelhouse or bridge...
I would be seriously creeped out to be manning one of them when the tipping is going on. Maybe they're not manned at that time?

To 2 on the stern look like "Boom or Bronc or Swinder" tugs, then there are the 2 cranes. Not quite sure what the boom tugs are called.

That would be quite the ride though!

Try again Is there anybody interested in West Coast of Canada TUGS who could give me a hand to sort out my fleet lists. I kive in New Zealand Cheers This is primarily a ferries forum... there's never been much talk of tugs here. There are two facebook pages where you might have more luck; BC Coastal Mariners, and British Columbia Nautical History. They're both private groups that you need to join.
