The theme for the October 2011 Flagship Contest is "Belly of the Beast"In this case, "Belly of the Beast" refers to the car deck, which simply means we are looking for photos of the car deck, the guts of the ferry. We've done a passenger cabin flagship before (Inside Out - December 2009); now it's time to pay tribute to what ferries are all about - moving our cars! The rules for this one are short and sweet: 1. Any car carrying ferry in the world is eligible 2. The photo must be taken from the car deck itself. --------------------- You may submit up to three (3) photos for this ballot. Nominations will end on September 29th at 9:00 PM PDT. Voting will commence shortly thereafter. Usual size restrictions apply. For further information, please see our Forum Flagship rules, located here.

I'll anticipate a question, and try to answer it:
- but what about a photo taken from the car-deck, out the car-deck window, where the main subject of the photo is a mountain, a sunset or the water or another ferry seen through that car-deck window?
Answer: - As was told us in the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", no car-deck showing, no dice".
in other words, I'm assuming that the main subject of the photo should be part of the car deck itself, not just a view out the window....

A view out of a car deck opening is acceptable as long as it includes a little something of the car deck itself - it doesn't have to show much of it. Almost anything goes here, as long as some element of the car deck is included, and as long as the picture was taken from said car deck.

The rules for this one are short and sweet: 1. Any car carrying ferry in the world is eligible 2. The photo must originate from the car deck itself. This means no shots from a dock or other external location with a view of the ferry's car deck. I'm assuming Rule 2 means anywhere else on a ferry with a view of the car deck, but not on the car deck is ineligible. Just clarifying " other external location". Edit...missed the little tidbit at the end of your response to Flug..." as long as the picture was taken from said car deck"

Would this be an acceptable placement of the vessel name?

It's a view of the car deck; thereby, it's completely acceptable

I choose to submit this banner of formerly-our QPR as a "definite" but might add the one that I first asked about earlier as my third for this month or substitute it for this one if need be (ahead of the deadline); opinions welcome. This is our former Flagship Queen of Prince Rupert at Skidegate, Haida Gwaii (formerly QCI), - bow-to - after arriving at Prince Rupert from her voyage north from Port Hardy which recognized the one year anniversary of the passing of our most recent official Flagship (there hasn't been an official Flagship since, correct? Then again, I think that possibly our SoBC might have held this title since) Queen of the North. img30.imageshack.us/img30/6227/qoprincerupertwcff2.jpg

I have two options. These are from the "Open Ship" aboard the then new BC ferry MV SPIRIT OF BRITISH COLUMBIA on Sunday, March 7, 1993. Here they are: Without lettering Do you think it'd be possible to repost that one and have the white bulk on the right cropped off?

Are you submitting both for the ballot ? if not, then you will need to make the decision and remove one by the deadline.
