Flugel Horn,
The camera that your friend has is a Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT, according to the EXIF data embedded in the file. That data also tells me that the photo was taken on 28 July 2006 just after 5 am in the morning!
Nice shots. She (the QPR) is looking somewhat rusty now.

Whoa. Creepy Jim.
That was exactly one month after my first forum-ferry trip.
I feel scared now.

I have 2 questions for the experts, arising from the above QPR photographs: 1) Why is the aft mast painted black, instead of white? It seems misplaced in the livery colours. 2) In the top photo, I can see 3 passenger decks below the bridge. What type of area/room is located at the bow-end of each of those 3 decks? (ie. what is the space used for?) The aft mast being black may have something to do with visibility or navigation after dark - just a guess. How many other ferries have aft masts anyway? All the C class? The 1st 3 C's originally had white masts but they were repainted black before 1980. I have photos to show this. The bottom of the aft mast on the QPR was originally white, but never has it been all white so far as I can tell. Re the outside decks at the bow on the QPR. Only the upper one just below the wheelhouse is accessible to passengers. For a look at this location click on this link: s90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/wetcoastkidjst/Queen%20of%20Prince%20Rupert/?action=view¤t=DSCN0018.flvThere is a very small deck below that (in front of cafeteria) which is used as an access route to the deck below where various apparatus such as anchors, winches, etc. is located. That deck is on the same level as the forward lounge, the one with covered over windows.

The following photo was sent to me by my friend Dirk, the guy in the Alaska ferry video. He shot this pic last August while retuning from Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert on board the QPR. Photo by D. Mendel

So, for the inside part of the forward-decks on QPR, in the same spots, from top to bottom:
- Bridge - Passenger area of some sort - Cafeteria - Forward Lounge - Car deck
Is this correct ?

Masts aft of and close to the funnel are often painted black to hide the exhaust stains. One of the clues to a US Navy nuclear powered ship used to be that all the masts were grey and not black. I assume this is the case with QPR as well.

Interior and exterior shots of the Rupert can be found here karlsferryphotos.fotopic.net/c1074891.html the photos I took last March on her positioning cruise south to TSA. It is odd now that I think of it to have a forward lounge on the lower deck. Why dident they put the Cafe down below then the Forward Lounge up top with a better view??

When I rode her on Rememberance Day two years ago on the Inside Passage, I can remember going to the Forward Lounge as we rounded the corner into Port Hardy. The lounge itself was nice, but there were all kinds of things at the bow blocking my lovely view.

Almost correct. The deck below the bridge is officers' cabins, I believe. This is a crew only area. On the same deck at the aft end are passenger cabins - the deluxe ones with showers.

Beauty photos, Scott. I especially appreciated the view of the Coho side-loading, a shot that's seemingly only dated by the colour of the photograph. I'm sorry that I missed it, and, as I always seem to be when I miss a such a trip after seeing the great pics, I'm jealous. Thanks again for bringing the excitement to us.

Great photos. The one of the Princess Mary brings back memories. When my grandparents were alive we always drove from Duncan to the restaurant for dinner when I visited.

This is probably misplaced in the wrong forum but the picture of the Coho made me wonder how the new regulations will effect it/if at all? Has anyone heard of any plans for a replacement?

My pictures of the Jan 12 return trip to Horseshoe Bay are now up and ready for viewing. Please be aware that the pictures in the Queen of Oak Bay and Queen of Surrey albums are not of good quality. You will see that the Queen of Capilano realy needs a paint job. You can access the photos at this site, please click on the name of the ship you wish to look at. s104.photobucket.com/albums/m196/shiptracker There is 45 pictures in the Queen of Cowichan album, Enjoy

Hi Everyone! The weather was so nice last week (no snow up here on the Sunshine Coast), I decided to hunt for some public beach access along the Berth 1 side in Langdale. I was quickly rewarded for my efforts - Super easy to get to beach and the Surrey blew her whistle! ;D Here are the pics... i147.photobucket.com/albums/r285/MVQoSCC/QS%20Langdale/
