While many people from this great forum were basking in the presence of the Coastal Renaissance Open House, I was on a day trip up to the Sunshine Coast today. I caught the 920 sailing from HSB and the final sailing (820) home. Both were well under half full, as the upper car deck was only used on the morning sailing (1.5 lanes used up). Since I arrived at HSB at 910 this morning, I didn't have an opportunity to take some shots from the terminal as I simply rolled right onto the lower car deck. Therefore, I have to settle for showing this shot of the Queen of Capilano in Snug Cove from a distance. Here's a shot of the articulating upper car deck ramp for those who have only heard about them but not seen them. These are on all C class vessels (excluding the Alberni, of course) in case there's only one lower berth ramp, which I have seen used at Langdale's Berth 2 before. Other scenic shots here.

Awesome pics, Nickfro.
By the way, I just happened to see your 9:20am sailing of the Queen of Surrey this morning. I was heading South, on the Sea to Sky highway while I was on my way to Horseshoe Bay to pick up Scott to continue on to the Coastal Renaissance tour. I almost pulled over along the way to get video footage of the Surrey, seeming she turned really wide, cutting really close to Gambier Island. There was quite the Northern outflow coming down the sound today. Were you able to feel the waves out there today?

It's always funny when you hear about other forum members being close by!
That was a pretty good 'Squamish Wind' as a number of my marine friends call it. It really churns up Howe Sound and I'd be willing to bet that Georgia Strait was calmer. Surprisingly, it was a smooth ride like any other sailing. . .no crashing nor listing of any notice. I talked to someone that crossed on the 120 sailing and it sounded like that trip was rougher than mine. I like travelling on those 'rough' trips once in a while, as long as it takes no more than 15 mins longer than the scheduled crossing time (unlike last Monday night on route 2!). It sometimes amazes me that these vessels travel in conditions like they do. It proves that docking is the biggest factor when deciding whether to cancel a sailing. The 'irregular' rounding of the corner near Gambier was probably a method to help it travel on the smoothest course possible as I didn't see any other boats out there to cause a detour of such. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine!

I like that shot of the Bowen Queen. It really shows how active Salt Spring Island is when you see how full that sailing is and there's also the Fulford-Swartz Bay run to VI. I wonder if they had to leave any overheights behind on that sailing. It looks pretty close to fit one more on there. I bet those operators will be happy to see the HSQ back in service next week.

Forgot to post this one of the Skeena Queen on route from Fulford to Swartz Bay. This was around noon and a full sailing. I saw Fulford Harbour and it looks like a few cars were left behind or either missed the boat!

Don't be so sure, it is the NorAd, in the Forward Stairwell, I believe it was on the door to the gallery deck structure. IIRC, be interesting to know if they cleaned it off (and No, I didn't write it on)

Those have got to be the best shots of the CR we've seen to date. Though I guess we haven't had a sunny day in BC since she got here. The minute I saw your sig I almost thought I was looking at the CI.

I was on the Queen of Vancouver today and spotted this is where she hit the dock and the damage to her rubbing strake. Pretty big I would say! Port side of the ship.

Owch! That is quite the dent! It's hard to imagine what it would have felt like to be on the ship as it hit the turning dolphin (?) like that.
That dent is pretty comparable to one of the rims on my car right now. That's all thanks to the maintenance of the Sea to Sky highway as of late, with all of the potholes in the road. New rims have already been ordered.
Hopefully the dent in the Vancouver gets repaired though. The Esquimalt had a similar dent I think a month or so ago, and was taken to Deas for emergency repairs. So maybe she'll head for Deas once she's done filling in for the SoBC, but after Spring Break.

Interesting to see that there must have been and dent before which has been repaired. If you look carefully you see weld seams around this dent. Looks like an insert plate has been put there.

Now that's quite the dent. Kind of crazy how that ends up happening, Just a little too hard at the dock and there you go.
