Ok I'll guess the Queen on the left is Vancouver and right is Nanaimo. Here are some photos I took on Spring break. Coastal Renaissance coming around Newcastle Island. Coastal Renaissance shares the dock with the Esquimalt. The Coquitlam is in the foreground while the Renaissance comes in to dock. The Capilano on her way to Snug Cove. A close up of the Renaissance. Finally the Esquimalt docked at Departure Bay. The rest of the Pictures are located HERE

Thanks for looking Chris. I was amazed at the size difference too because they both hold similar amounts of cars. I might have another angle that I havn't put on my website I can post to show the sizes even better.

As I told a few of the forum members, I bought a four day sailpass and tried to do as many minor routes as possible. I did managa to catch the 2 ferries on the Buckley Bay run, and that was a huge bonus! Anyways, here are the photos. I will write a mini paragraph for each one. Queen of Nanaimo on her way to Tsawwassen-Not much to say here, just an ordinary sailing! Queen of Vancouver heading to TsawwassenQueen of Saanich and Skeena Queen passingMiss Mill Bay coming into Brentwood Bay-I hadn't been on the Mill Bay for a few years, and it was great to get back on. One of the crew members was off that day and he was taking the ferry. He said, that at their peak (the deckhands), they can load about 20 cars on the Mill Bay! My sailing had about 18. He said the Mill Bay will be around for a couple for years, as her hull has been refitted. After that, the Klitsa will replace her (Yippee!) Makes you wonder, will they try and paint the "Welcome aboard vancouver islands most beautiful shortcut" on the side of the Klitsa? I just think it will be a little weird not having the Mill Bay on that run! Quinsam coming into Nanaimo Harbour on a nice sunny morningKahloke heading to Buckley Bay-I managed to go on the 2 ferries each way, so I have all 4 possible shots of the ferries passing each other! I only got the Klitsa and Kahloke coming into Denman though. This day was really fun and I had a great time! Klitsa with only 1 car and me!- This sailing was almost empty because it was the second sailing before the 20 minute break, so the Kahloke had taken most of the traffic! KahlokeA Via Rail bud car-I took this photo for my dad, but I thought i might post it. I rode one of these when I was 6 years old and barely remember it. They are very cool, and it was a neat surprise to see one! Tachek leaving Denman East-Riding the Tachek was fun, and it was neat to see her go bashing into the dock on Hornby Island because it was quite wavy! The crew doesn't think much of it though! Kahloke coming into Denman WestDenman Queen heading to Denman-Does anyone know what happened to the Klitsa's builder's plaque? Her designers plaque is there, but the one that should be below the bridge is not. You can even see where it is supposed to go. Would it say Denman Queen on it though? That would be sort of cool as her originally run was one Denman Island Tenaka coming into Heriot Bay-We love staying at the Heriot Bay Inn (my mother included; she wants to go back every year. This was our 3rd time there!) as it offers a great view of the ferry. Seeing the Tenaka really reminded me of the Nicola class and her sisters. They are so similar! It's very weird. I guess you could class them as Step-Siblings! I didn't bother going on the Tenaka though. But I got a lot of photos of her coming in and docking! Bowen Queen docked at Campbell River-I was quite excited to see this service notice as I have not been on the Bowen Queen before. However, I was quite sad to see that her green plaque is not there. Anybody know what happened to it? Quadra Queen II coming into Port Mcneill-It was a really stormy day, and when we were on her it was really rolling! When we came back from Sointula, as we were docking the crew pulled out the poll and pushed off the dock to ease the ferry in. Has anyone ever seen this before? It was really quite interesting! The sailing was really nice though. Queen of Burnaby coming into Comox- I was quite grumpy to see that her life saving plan and plaques are no where to be found. Any idea where these are? North Island Princess posing on a beautiful Sunday morning-This sailing was really nice. My mom even came along! It was sunny the whole time. I was invited up to the bridge and I asked them tons of questions about the future of BC Ferries. For one thing, the N.I.P will be around till 2014! And they said that her dogwood carpets won't be going any time soon! ;D They also said that in a few years, BC Ferries is planning to build 6 minor sister ships (In BC) to replace some of the older ones. It will be interesting to see what comes of it! Queen of Tsawwassen coming into Saltery Bay-Though it was nice to see Miss Tsawwassen again, I was hoping to go on the Queen of Chilliwack. It's good to know that she will be around for another year! But I got some good photos of her doing the swoop into Saltery Bay, so that was good! And of course, It's great to see her rattling EXTREMELY loudly as she is coming into Saltery Bay!! Queen of Surrey coming into Langdale-I asked about 5 crew members about the life about the Queen of Esquimalt. They all said that her service life with BC Ferries is done. 1 even said that she had already been sold I will post some more photos over the next few days, and tell you some more stories as I think of them!

They are very cool, and it was a neat surprise to see one! I was on one of those a couple of summers ago riding the E&N down to Victoria for a free HeliJet round trip between Vic and Van. It was my first time ever on a train, and my first time ever on a helicopter.

Thanks for that trip report, Sean..! I am worried about all the missing plaques though. This sounds like more "denial" of BCF rich history to me...

Klitsa departing Preedy Harbour... Neil: is "Preedy Harbour" somewhere on the West side of Denman, perhaps?

Umm... no- so as not to confuse some of our younger members, that's Preedy Harbour, as in Thetis Island.
Note to QN Teen: Klitsa and Kahloke are running from Buckley Bay to Denman West, and Tachek from Gravelly Bay to Shingle Spit.

You know, it's funny, because when I was typing that I was thinking.... hmm, have I got these mixed up?! and it's actually quite obvious, because Denman West is on the West side of Denman Island!
He said that the new ships won't be built for a few years, probably about 6 or 7. But it isn't really necessary right now anyways, right?

APRIL FOOLS DAY TRIP: Pictures and videos. On April 1 I decided to go for a ride on the Queen of Coquitlam to get some pictures and videos of the ship while she is replacing the Queen of Oak Bay. We departed Departure Bay on time at 8:30am and arrived in Horseshoe Bay on time. The Coquitlam is realy begining to look realy scruffy and worn. Especially the Sundeck. Even the refurbished interior walls have a lot of wear and tear and dirt. Anyway, I made a video tour of the Sundeck while we were still at Departure Bay and did take a video tour of the interior of the vessle too. I returned to Departure Bay on Coastal Renaissance's 12:30pm sailing. Most of Deck 5 was closed and passengers were asked to proceed up to Deck 6. I got myself a coffee from the Sitka Lounge and sat at one of the rear end window seats for our departure. During the sailing I toured the ship and even making my way down to take my first look at the Upper car deck as you will see on my album. I like this ship more everytime I ride on it. FERRY FANATIC ALERT!!!!! Postcards of the Coastal Renaissance now available on board the ships Gift shop. However it is one of those "Fake" pictures. It shows the ship passing Stanley Park on its Delivery Voyage but without the Olympic Adds in Normal BC Ferry Livery. I now have over 300 pictures of the Coastal Renaissance All Pictures and videos are accessable via the links down below the post. Please note I have more videos to upload and hope to upload as soon as time permitts. Be sure to watch the new video of the Coastal Renaissance's Horn, on my You tube site, its a differnt tone to the first one I uploaded. PS: The Coastal Renaissance sure makes a Long turn while leaving Horseshoe Bay, Check out the Sitka Lounge departure Video. It takes about 5 minutes for the ship to complete its turn out of Horseshoe Bay.

If you haven't noticed yet, notice now that Departure Bay berth 1 is also a floating berth.

Is DPB berth 1 ever used for revenue operations?

DPB Berth 1 has been a floating berth since 2001-2? I can remember seeing (I have video footage of this actually, on my youtube video collection) the Pacificat Explorer sitting in this berth, and it was a floating berth. That video was from Spring Break (March 2003). I remember seeing a photo on John H's Ferry Terminal Website, of the MV Quinsam sitting in this berth, for emergency hull repairs in the year 2000, and it was still the (original?) Black Ball creosote log framed berth.
That berth actually gets used maybe once in a blue moon for service. I've heard of times when the Esquimalt was sitting in that dock, but was called to do MD sailings, and would load up with cars at that berth. But it would be one of those situations where there was only a few cars waiting at Departure Bay, but the Sailing waits were on the Horseshoe Bay side.

I don't call the dock on the west side of Denman Island "Denman West". I call it by the nearest named geographical location on that side of the island—Metcalf Bay, which is a bit to the southeast.

Great pictures. The second one is my favourite because of the mountains and clouds. Where abouts was this taken?
