Neat lines, pscurr. We have a month to document the Tsawwassen in the Gulf Islands before her transfer to ? Jervis Inlet in the summer if the IS is as far behind schedule as some of us think, if not then possibly Route 9a according to a rumour mentioned on the forum a while back.

Awesome Photos! With how grey it is, one would think that it's the middle of October and not May...

Chris those photos perfectly capture the essence and mood of the BC Coast so well. If I close my eyes I can smell the ocean and hear the seagulls. Ok yes it has been two long years since I have made the trek west and long past due. Thanks Chris - next best thing to being there.

Chris, you're picture of the Cappie emerging from the mist is almost a story in itself.
It's so iconic of rainy wet weather, but it also conjures up all the mystery and intrigue that you feel when the fog closes in around you and transforms the world into an unfamiliar and surreal landscape.
I love it when there's fog around, to feel it in the air and the almost dusty, old attic smell of fog hanging in the air and see familiar landmarks take on strange new shapes... but I could do without the seagulls.

I agree Mill Bay. I used to love walking to school on a really foggy morning. We lived in Burnaby and you could even hear the fog horn in the Burrard Inlet every few minutes. On Long Beach or the Oregon Coast I love putting on a warm sweater and walking the beach in the morning fog.

If you like fog and Fog Horns, Try camping out at Michigan Creek on the West Coast Trail. Its kind of Spooky to be sitting by your fire on a very Foggy evening hearing the Fog Horn from the Nearby Pachena Point light house. Its especially Spooky when you know you are the only Hikers on the trail at the end of the Season.
OR Like the last time I ever rode on the Queen of Victoria through Active pass. You could not see the front of the boat from the forward lounge, but you can hear the Georgian Point Light House and the engine from the opposing ferry, Thank God for radar! (Not Radar on MASH)

For me it's Botanical Beach, listening to the whistle buoy near Port Renfrew.

There also is one at the lighthouse just off Chesterman Beach near Tofino. Nice to lay in bed, with the sliding door wide open hearing the surf and the fog horn going off.

Nice Pics Chris! Dusk shots are my favourite because there are such interesting colours and shadows. The pic of the Cappy was especially neat because of the reflections on the water.

Ok, I know I've been going on a photo posting frenzy alot over the past few days....but I've got some more from tonight to share.... Chris, of all your recent photos, this one is my pick of the lot for being the best one. I agree with the fine appreciation that dusk shots bring. And I really like all the comments above regarding fog horns too. I've been in situations like that a lot when we used to go out boating. I do wanna try the West Coast trail someday maybe, too.

Karl, Donella and I did a Route 1 roundtrip and 30 trip roundtrip today. We had the fortunate opportunity to get bridge tours on all the ships we were on (Donella on the Saanich, and all of us on the Vancouver and Alberni). The crews were extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. We literally had a blast as Donella and I got turns sounding the Queen of Vancouver's whistle in Active Pass (video later...) Overall this was one of the most exciting ferry trips I have done in long while..!
A few photos from today, starting with the Cowichan's morning breakdown... More photos here.

Wow, awesome pics!!
Friends of mine were on the same Queen of Alberni sailings you guys were on. Yesterday morning, they came and tracked me down and asked me why they couldn't take the Queen of Cowichan. Of course, it was one of those moments where I hadn't heard anything until then.
Plus, I had a feeling that you would be on that 8:15pm sailing on the Alberni, Scott. I was watching Siitech and saw that happening, and figured that's gonna get us some good photos.
Were you able to see the Fireworks very well, as you approached Duke Point? I knew that would be another perfect timing thing, as I watched the fireworks last night from the Newcastle Island Ferry dock on the seawall. Then once fireworks were done, I saw the Alberni steam into Duke Point. The Quinsam also provided a great view of them, as she sailed at like 2 knots across the harbour so people could watch them.

Yeah it was an awesome trip. I would have to say the best part of the trip was on the bridge of the Alberni for pretty much the whole trip back to Duke Point and actually getting the chance to steer the ship which was cool. So nice and relaxing up there. We did see the fireworks from the bridge which was awesome. A perfect end to a perfect day of ferry riding!

That was a fun trip, and I have come to realize that I totally suck at steering. "Chasing the compass" is what I do, and I should never be allowed near the wheel unless the ship is in autopilot mode!

Were you able to see the Fireworks very well, as you approached Duke Point? Yes, very well. We were on the bridge from a few minutes from departure at Tsawwassen to our arrival at Duke Pt, so we had a the best view on the ship available to us; the starboard bridge wing... I didn't have my tripod with me so please excuse the blurry picture...

Excellent Photos Scott. It's like getting a quick taste of what the fleet has to offer. The "C"s, The Tsawwassen, The NorAd.

This weekend for me was spent in Comox. Tsawwassen on Friday was a zoo, as usual, particularly for Route 1 travellers... More to come, as always, folks. Stay tuned for photos of the Cowichan, Vancouver, Burnaby and the NorAd.
