Awesome photos, everyone! NewFlyer, I almost caught the 3:15pm sailing to Tsawwassen to capture pics of the Norad at Tsawwassen, but decided against it with the weather and traffic. Was the 3:15pm the sailing you were on today Alright, I'm back home with more goodies to share. I'll start off with a photo from last night at the Nanaimo Harbour. The little dock in the foreground of this photo is the Newcastle Island Ferry dock, with one of the Victoria Harbour Ferries tied up to it. I just happened to be sitting in a spot where it would look like the explosions were coming from the Ferry . The rest are from today. I decided to catch the 2:00pm sailing out of Departure Bay this afternoon, and was surprised to be stopped outside of the terminal, when the BCF website was showing that the sailing was 15% full an hour before I arrived. But, eventually I was let into the terminal once all of the reserved people showed up. I've got another story to share, in the News Section of the forum about a scalper I came across today. Also had a little bit of a gut wrenching moment when I pulled up to the ticket booth, and the lady asked me if I had a reservation. I of course didn't have one. The ticket agent then radioed to the traffic controllers outside of the terminal, "if the guy in the blueish silvery Honda was supposed to be buying a ticket yet". Thankfully they said yes I was clear to go. Here's a bit of an update on the terminal expansion. The new walkway is really taking to shape, with floor to ceiling windows. It's going to look nice when it's all complete. I got too carried away while looking at the construction progress, and suddenly I could see the Coquitlams mast sticking up over the bistro. So I made a bee line for the berth, in a calm non ferry geek way Now, here was the main reason that I caught this sailing. I knew the Coquitlam was going to be running late, so I'd be able to capture the two Super C's together. Now we get to sail downstream on the Renaissance River The Coquitlam is now the new Queen of Esquimalt, for workhorse duties. She never recieved the outer deck steel plate replacement that her sisters recieved. So it's quite wavy to walk on, and the water collects in some spots. Gotta love these Green Solariums. Maybe it's looking a little bit too green now... One minor change I noticed on board, was that the area below the bridge wings has been filled in. This was only done on the Cowichan for the longest time, and they've finally done the same to the Coquitlam. The Oak Bay and Surrey have always had the area below the bridge wings filled in since they were built. Windbreakers aren't anything new, just so everyone knows The Squamish River has been pushing out alot of Glacier melt over the past week with the hot temperatures. So we have merky brown water in Howe Sound at the moment. Hey, who's that?! That's Coastal Skier!! We hung around the Bay for a good 3 hours, to watch the Coquitlam, Renaissance, Oak Bay, Capilano and Surrey come and go. Look at this Rooster tail of a wake coming from the stern as she powers out of the dock! It's been a while since I've witnessed a "full speed ahead" out of the dock. To finish off the long weekend, I of course have Ferry horns to share. (PS: the horns might not sound immediately, because everyone is trying to listen all at once. Patience please!) Here's the Coquitlams #2 end (Horseshoe Bay end) horn sounding off at Departure Bay ferryman.sitesled.com/horns/queenofcoquitlam.wmaNow here's the Coquitlams #1 end (Departure Bay end) horn sounding off at Horseshoe Bay. ferryman.sitesled.com/horns/queenofcoquitlam2.wma

Cool photos everyone...
So it looks like that wharf at Horseshoe Bay is now the official place to get your ferry fanatic portrait taken. (Courtesy of Chris.) And it's very appropriate how you described it as floating down the Renaissance river... I'm surprised she hasn't changed the tidal forces on the entire coast.

I stopped in at the subway overlooking the Buckley Bay terminal on my way up island today and was surprised to see a two boat service running! (I’m guessing I missed a notice about this some place..) It was just like looking at a wider version of the Frasier and the Albion ferry The only camera I had was my cell phone.. Sorry folks…

Yesturday I went over to Vancouver to get bus tickets at the Greyhound depot on Main Street. Took the 08:30am sailing over to Horseshoe Bay and the 3pm from HB to DB. Both on the Oak Bay. I have New Pictures in the following Albums at my Photobucket site: -Queen of Coquitlam -Queen of Oak Bay -Coastal Inspiration I have new Videos on My Youtube Site. Of interest I have a video of our arrival into Berth 2 at Departure Bay from the main car deck, and of the bow doors opening. All links listed below in my signature. I also noticed that the Coastal Inspiration was all fired up and ready to go when we departed DB at 8:40 am.

I saw that while we were pushing 140 down the Inland Island Highway! I thought it was a figure of my imagination, but thanks for the photo Kam, that proves my eyesight.

Okay, I just got back from a school trip in Campbell River and snapped about 200 pictures. Here are the best ones. The rest will be uploaded to my Flickr site in the next few days. The Surrey heading for Langdale at 9:35AM. I finally got a picture from this warf. It took a while to find it though! The Inspiration getting ready for service at Departure Bay this afternoon. Another angle. We caught the 4:00 sailing today wihich made for some great photos along the way. Here is the Oak Bay just before entering Departure Bay. Here is a wider shot. The Surrey and Capilano sitting at Horseshoe Bay. The Renaissance coming out of Horseshoe Bay. A view of the side. This one seems to resemble a shot from Active Pass. We went on a whale watching tour and as I had hoped instead of whales I saw the Tenaka on the Quadra to Cortez run...you know you're a ferry geek when ;D The Tenaka with a sailboat. I hope you enjoyed this photos and if you want to see more full size ones just visit my Flickr site in the next few days.

All in all nice job canuck see you on ship simulator some time. The queen of coquitlam did not get her out deck panels replaced why and that would be pretty complex to do too .Are they doing that on the new west?

Hey Canucks, Nice shots of Nanaimo and New West. If you want to get closer to the water, you can head out on to the Burrard Dry Dock Pier which is now open to the public. It comes out parallel to the WMG docks. To access the pier, you just need to walk all the way to the end of Lonsdale Avenue where you see a parking lot. Just walk through the lot and go towards the left. You'll see the pier once you get to that point. Here is a link to a map just in case www.cnv.org/c//data/2/117/Land_Pier.pdf

Awesom Shots, Scott. It looks like they did a nice job with maximizing the limited space on the HSQ.
