Here are some photos of the MV Island Sky from this afternoon as it was coming back from its sea trial up to Saltery Bay. Additional photos here.

Thanks for sharing those photos. This is the most we've seen of Island Sky to date. She looks kind of strange from some angles. It's no beauty, but it certainly isn't super ugly, either.

Seriously, she should just be given to Bowen Island!

I don't know.. but from this shot, it kinda looks like an oil rig platform, just not raised 150 ft. or so in the air... A VERY busy concept!

"VERY INTERESTING", Arte Johnson would say in "Laugh-In".
Those "gate assemblies" you see at the ends houses navigation lights (forward masthead and stern lights).
I have an odd question for that deck extension you see at one of the corners. Is that for foot passenger boarding planks? Not a good design if it is. How would wheelchairs get to the cabin? They would still have to board on the Main Deck instead (as they would at the other end of the route).
As for the Tween Decks, I guess that these won't be wheelchair accessible to and from the Saloon Deck.

In one of the drawings I saw on one of the recent issues of "Western Mariner", there was a little subtitle stating "Snug Cove foot passenger ramp access" for that deck. Snug Cove is on Bowen Island, so this suggests a change in the future.

Sorry about not sharing these photos sooner. (I wasn't in a big hurry). These photos are from Thursday, June 12th. Unfortunately, they are on fotopic, so you need to click on this link: Here they are. You need to scroll all the way down to the bottom as the first photo is there. I hope you all like them.

I guess that means she can relieve the Queen of Capilano in the winter on route 8 when the Queen of Chilliwack relieves her from route 7.

I guess that means she can relieve the Queen of Capilano in the winter on route 8 when the Queen of Chilliwack relieves her from route 7. I think once the Nor Ex arrives the QPR will run on Route 40 in the summer allowing Chilliwack to run full time on Route 7 the Island Sky to move to Bowen Island then the Cappy to move to Swartz Bay and the Mayne Queen to Texada and retire the NIP

Thats a very interesting that would work to. By NIP do you mean the north island princes.
i just notied to that the island sky has the passenger wing near the bow of the boat just like the c class.

Great photos. I've just got one pet peeve about her other than her name. She's pretty much one colour only. She needs blue! On a foggy day she would be camouflaged too much. Furthermore That "Snug Cove Foot Passenger Ramp Access Platform" makes her uneven. Otherwise she's still a nice boat.

Nice Shots! She is a cross breed. Skeena Queen + Queen of Cumberland = Island Sky I like her but I don't like gates on each end.

What are the gates for?
Are they just to hold up the Nav. light and the stick the bridge crew uses to line her up with the dock.
If so that is kind of sad. All that ugly expensive structure for so little. They could have just made a removable aluminum flag pole type thing and solved the entire problem and made her look nicer.
I doubt its use is so simple though. Does anyone know its real purpose?
Cheers,

Perhaps to enforce vehicle height restriction?

I don't like the fact that on the side one half has 6 windows while the other has 4. It looks like the evacuation chute is there but they could have modified it to be at least 5 and 4, but of course this is the Island "High" on drugs. Seriously though she looks okay, the design is growing on me.

BCF's 'C' class and some minor vessels once had lateral symmetry, but that is long gone. Lateral symmetry is not of great value these days.

I think once the Nor Ex arrives the QPR will run on Route 40 in the summer The QPR will be retired when the NE comes into service. According to what I heard from a NorAd crew member back in March young Keiran is right. The QPR will live on doing route 40 for about 2 summers. Info from crew members does often turn out to be wrong, however.

I was told by the Bosun on the NorAd that the QPR does not have a future with BCF. Also I noticed on my last trip on the Wack they are installing a modern lifesaving system. So still anyones guess is still valid as to the future of the northern fleet.
Cheers,
