As mentioned many times, I love the symmetry, and I think they have ruined a good thing! The Island Sky would look a lot better if she were more symettrical. And what is with those 2 curvy windows on the left side?!

Mr. Nickfro,
When ships sail through the First Narrows, they usually blow the horn just before entering the narrows. Did the Island Sky do that the day you were down there taking photos of her? If so, what's her horn like? Ie: 1, 2, 3 note horn??
Awesome photos btw. Thanks for going down there to do that.
I'm seeing some Queen of Chilliwack resembleance with the IS too, with the extended bridgewings, which catwalk to the exhaust pipes. While I'm not really a fan of the look of the exhaust pipes like most people on this forum, I think they will make for some neat photos in the future. Just picture seeing that thing power out of Saltery Bay at full speed, with exhaust coming out of the pipes, and doing a powerslide out of the bay. I've always liked seeing that type of look with the Powell River Class at least.

Island sky looks like a mini queen of alberni, kinda like it. I'm wondering why they don't ever actually do Seatrials with a loaded ship to see how it handles. It always seems to be with an empty cardeck.

Just take her on a run from Horseshoe Bay to Bowen Island for a true sea trial. Or put a few empty containers on her to simulate the weight conditions.

Fill her with ferry geeks and their cars is a better idea.

You are correct about the sounding of a ship's horn(s) upon the entrance of First Narrows. However, to one's disappointment, the Island Sky did not sound her horn when I was down there. I am not equipped with any audio recording devices so if she was to have sounded her horn, I wouldn't have been able to record it and, subsequently, would get scolded by the Forum Audio Buffs. ;D My guess is that she's equipped with a 1 tone horn, like the other smaller ferries in the fleet. It'd be nice to hear her equipped with a 3 toner, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm wondering why they don't ever actually do Seatrials with a loaded ship to see how it handles. It always seems to be with an empty cardeck. None of the images from my Island Sky Photos show the car decks very well, but from what I saw, there were some trucks and/or containers aboard on that sea trial. . .nothing even close to capacity. . .but at least the car deck wasn't completely empty.

Well to answer the Horn Question, Refer to the Circled Area in the Photo... There you go, Two One-Tone Horns.

Well, I got an unexpected trip to Vancouver this week, unfortunetely under bad circumstaces. A freind was in a horrable car wereak and shipped over to VGH. But, that aside a trip on a ferry always manages to put a bit of a smile on my face and I grabbed a few new pictures. Full resolution at www.flickr.com/photos/kams_world/On the way out of DB, I noticed this fellow up the mast of CC: Then got a couple nice pics of CI at Entrance Island On my trip the Alberni ran clean over a crab trap! It dragged all the way down the side of the ship and I was surprised it didn’t get wound up in the propeller! And the CI on her way to TSW.

This photo is new, but of an old ship. It is not of a 'BC Ferry', so technically does not belong on this thread. The rest is for you to figure out...

The emblem on the rug is probably a clue, but I don't recognize it...

Well, I too see the logo on the floor and identify the WPYR (WP & YR) flag as the White Pass and Yukon Route. Given the picture, it could be anything from the SS Whitehorse to the Bailey, Yukon, Monarch, Prospector or Dawson. So, this has to be part of a ship or reproduction of one of the sternwheelers that used to run that route many moons ago... Am I close?

Yes, you are close. This is one of only a few surviving Yukon River stern wheelers that were once operated by the British Yukon Navigation Company (a division of WP&YR). This vessel is now completely restored by Parks Canada as a National Historic Site at Whitehorse, Yukon. Another view - this time of the main passenger deck forward observation lounge. JST photo ©This is one of many things to see if you find yourself up in that area some time.
