There are important changes coming to Flickr that will be effective 8 January 2019. Among other things, free accounts will be limited to 1,000 photos and videos. There will be impacts on members of this forum who have free Flickr accounts. I do recommend that those of you with free accounts that have more than 1000 photos in them (or are approaching 1000) upgrade to 'Flickr Pro' at $50 (US) per year. I think that that fifty dollars per year is not unreasonable, especially when compared to the $400 per year that photo bucket was asking.
I think that the intent here is that Flickr (now part of Smug Mug) does not want you to be using their service as a sort of 'cloud' storage and get that for free.

I value a good platform for hosting my forum photos, and so this was an easy purchase decision to make. The introductory pro offer is $34.99USD (offer good until Nov.30), which worked out to be $45.92CAD.

Follow this link for details ... I find it funny how poeple had compliments about the last update on Flickr now poeple are complaining about going back to the original way on Flickr but a different version of it.

Once I reach 999, I will begin to upload the oldest photos onto another Flickr account, as new photos are uploaded.

I seem to recall reading that photobucket had re-instated people's ability to share photos, even if you're not paying, and I see I was able to. I imagine it's limited, but I can't find information at first glance. Does anyone know how much they allow before you have to pay?

I imagine it's limited, but I can't find information at first glance. Does anyone know how much they allow before you have to pay? After a bit of looking around on photobucket's website, I've found that their free plan gives you 2 GB of storage. The only catch of the free plan is that any images you host will have a "proudly hosted on photobucket" watermark attached to them. Hey, at least they aren't making you pay $400 for that privilege anymore right? Plus anyone browsing through the older posts and threads on our forum will be able to see all those old photos once again. Once you upgrade to a paid subscription, the watermark on your hosted images disappears, you get direct access to photobucket's tech support team, and you can browse photobucket ad free. With a basic plan, you're basically paying for those three features, your storage stays at a measly 2 GB. The intermediate plan bumps your storage up to 20 GB and the expert plan maxes out your storage at 2 TB. It's certainly an upgrade over the unbalanced pay model photobucket was using the last few years, but the prices are still nowhere near competitive. If anything, it makes Flickr's basic and pro accounts much more attractive.

I must say I'm pleased that the historical photos I posted a decade ago (!) are once again viewable. For me personally I don't mind the watermark as my pictures were taken not for any artistic value, but more to capture a moment in time. The older I get, the more important I realize that is.

Flickr seems way more reasonable to use and has way better features.

I hope they go bankrupt. I'm one of the lightest posters of photos on this forum, and I have a very modest number of photos on photobucket, even over many years... and I'm still over their limit.

Rate is $49.99 USD, which translated to $65.63 CAD. I'm happy with the value that I get from Flickr, especially for all the railway photo albums that I've made and presented during 2019, and for hosting ferry photos here.

I look at what photobucket is doing with all our old photos- not just the huge logo, but completely fuzzing them out as well, and what they charge, and it is a pretty easy decision.

So... I'd like to upload a trip report to the forum, but my Flickr account is full.
Given I'm already paying Apple a cloud storage fee to archive my photos, and I'm paying for the late Zack Wilhoite's Flickr Pro account every year, what's the best practice these days for hosting / sharing photos specifically on this forum without having to upgrade my personal Flickr (and pay another fee).

I can't for the life of me remember how to upload photos from flickr on to this forum. Also... if your photo is too big, do you get told that, or do you just get the highlighted link, without the photo?

Also... if your photo is too big, do you get told that, or do you just get the highlighted link, without the photo? On Flickr, under the "Share" icon there should be a way to get the BBCode. Copy that with your desired size, select BBCode when creating a post and paste it in. Preview will let you see how it looks. Been a few years since I've posted anything here so took me a while to figure it out!
