Photos of Coastal Celebration on her normal route. I am posting these picture because they are sharp compared to the rest of my photos.

For some strange reason, Coastal Celebration is just arriving at Vancouver Drydock. Pics to follow later today... It looks like the SoBC is subbing in for her on Friday. Could this be a normal hull inspection/recertification? According to the Reservations page she's expected to be back on route 1 on Sunday as the #2 vessel.

Time for another New Addition to my Growing Library of Walkthroughs. The first one shot in the Wide-Angle of my Tokina 11-16 Lens. Also my longest Walkthrough to date.

So... I've been looking at these vessels for several years now, trying to figure out what my final impression is, and WCK's photo, above, prompted me to give my verdict. It's worth absolutely nothing more than the perspective of one person, but here it is.
The Coastals are big, ugly hulks. They're self propelled parking garages, with passenger accommodation stacked on top. Look at the upper car deck, with the angular, bulky structures at the ends. Of course, there is no bow and stern... forgiveable on a double ender, but the wheelhouse is almost invisible on deck five, squashed beneath the passenger decks. They have no resemblance to proper ships. They accomplish the difficult task of making the cookie-cutter WSF template highly desirable, in terms of aesthetic comparison.
I realize that the true test of a passenger/vehicle ferry is efficiency of carriage and operation, and, on this count, the Coastals fare fairly well. I'll take a route 30 passage on the Coastal Inspiration over the Queen of Alberni any day, especially if it's busy. Just on looks, though, for me the verdict is in. These things are the ugliest major passenger vessels to ever sail our coast, from Tacoma to Dutch Harbor.

Let me take a ride on the MV Coastal Apologist, and say that the look is dependent on the angle of view. From certain viewing angles, the streamlined ends of the ship look pleasing. And if you imagine that Deck 6 cafeteria or Sitka/Buffet is actually a large wrap-around bridge, then it looks like a ship. I offer this photo as evidence. (Or perhaps it just means that any ship looks great from this angle and vantage point)

Here are a few more shots of the CC that I took while spending a lovely day on Galiano on December 27th. There are (of course) many photos that I took of other ferries, also. IMHO, these vessels look fairly impressive when viewed in the right light & from a 'good' angle. A little weird too, and certainly not so ship-shape from the view point of a traditionalist. Some say ship aesthetics on this coast has been a downhill slide since the Princess twins Marguerite (# one) and Kathleen hit the water in 1925. Southbound in Active Pass off the Galiano shoreline @ Mary Anne Pt., en route to Swartz Bay - 10 AM sailing from Tsawwassen - 27 December 2014
Great photos, Jim. For this photo, did you walk along the beach from Bellhouse Park, or did you have access to a property? That looks almost in line with the Galiano Caboose, a great place to spend a weekend BTW.

I will explain exactly where this spot is.

It is almost like Mr. Horn and I are lie the twain that shall ever meet as we keep posting the same ships lately! Here are my Coastal Celebration photos with a snippet of the Mayne Queen:
