Great photos from the folks braving the lovely NW dampness! Thanks for sharing them.
She sure looks like a big old gal. Or is the proper description BBW?
Congratulations on the new boat!

Okay folks I have just uploaded my pictures of the Coastal Renaissance's arrival into departure Bay, I was standing down on the beach beside berth 1. These are located in the Coastal Renaissance album. In addition I created a new album called Multi-ships and in the sub-album "Qcow-QCoq" I uploaded pictures of the Twins together. Kam Did you see the rather Unusual docking of the Queen of Coquitlam when she arrived? She entered the Bay and came into berth 3 almost the same way a V Class ship would. The Queen of Cowichan was launching her Zodiac while the Coquitlam was docking Therefor the Coquitlam was giving her sister a wider berth. New to this site. Would like to ask a question...who was the captain and crew of the Coastal Renaissance for the journey and what country are they from? She is beautiful but Olympic murals a bit too busy for my liking.

She is a beautiful ship. Seeing her there with the Cowichan and Coquitlam makes her stand out more. Our C class ferries look small and plain now compared to the CR.

I've uploaded a few more photos, this time on to my fotopic website. The added ones were aimed at getting the full on top view of the ship. Enjoy. photosbychris2006.fotopic.net/c1424058.htmlPS: Editing the Video as I write. Expect to see it posted within the next hour.

Ok, heres the video I've been talking about. It's a bit shakier than I had planned to make it (tripod will be used next time), because the Rain mixed with snow sure made it cold. I was also soaking wet as I filmed this, so I was shivering pretty good. To add to the matter, I was trying to take still photos as well, and having a camera in both hands. I forgot the cut out the bit near the end, where my camera broke, and I cursed. So excuse my french for now, I'll fix the video later...

Great ambidextrous photo/videoing work. Yes that word is used in french too but not as often as some use it in English . Did I hear cars honking back at the CR? She must have almost wore out that great sound tri-note all the blasting that she did. That was excellent to hear.

The pics from above really show how wide she is. Is she indeed wider than a Spirit? The numbers I see don't agree for the beam of the Spirits. Those lounges are going to be hopping on a warm summer day. Too bad one will be for smoking though.

She is indeed wider than an S-class, but only by one metre.

So as far as square feet per floor, she would have similar or slightly more floor space than a Spirit because she is almost as long (160m vs. 167.57). However because she has two bridges on one of the decks there would be slightly less passenger space. I knew the Coastals were big just not how close to the Spirits in size they were.

Two observations about the CR (and very nice pictures you've all taken!):
1) She looks much more "muscular" than the C-class ships... just because there is so much more lounge space above the car decks, and how wide the ship seems.
2) Is the wheelhouse being so much lower than the C-class ships going to be a problem do you think from a crew perspective? BC Ferries seem to have higher ones, not lower.

How high are the Queen of Coquitlam's wheelhouses off the water compared with the ones on the Coastal Renaissance?

2) Is the wheelhouse being so much lower than the C-class ships going to be a problem do you think from a crew perspective? BC Ferries seem to have higher ones, not lower. A crew member I know, who has not been on the ship, was very skeptical of this aspect of the design. While overall he had praise for the ship he said it will not allow for optimal visibility and he believes it may be a problem. He was a qualified Captain of the Fast Ferries and was critical of them for the same reasons (among others, for those ones LOL)

Well, the simple solution to that is to put a lookout with a walkie-talkie on the bow sun deck or the upper vehicle deck.

I can assure you have a perfect lookout from the bridge. The two BCF captains who joined her on trial trip were absolutely satisfied with the outlook... You might see this during open houses.

as much as i seem to complain in other threads about the coastals being built offshore, they are nice vessels. with the bridge location, there would have been some thought about if it will work or not. they are a good spot.

Well, the simple solution to that is to put a lookout with a walkie-talkie on the bow sun deck or the upper vehicle deck. You could actually see this being done in the footage of one of the local news stations as she was docking at Departure Bay. On a side note, this same practice is necessary on atleast one other vessel, the Queen of Chilliwack where the bridge's view on the Earl's Cove / No. 2 end is obstructed by the solarium and superstructure below and in front of it.

I will really look forward to seeing the CR or another one of the Coastals beside a Spirit. To me the Spirit still looks like much a larger ship but that may be just a function of it being a single ender and its overall design.
Graham your pic of the CR under the bridge is great.

Well, the simple solution to that is to put a lookout with a walkie-talkie on the bow sun deck or the upper vehicle deck. already done. while arriving at dock, departing dock, tranisting narrow pasages (active pass), or foggy weather there is a watchperson on the bow of the vessel
