I'll keep my eyes on the news-reports for the next few days, to see if the media has picked-up and reported on the tripping-hazard story.
It looks like an oversight to me. I predict some yellow paint on the landing-area, and better traction-covers on the stairs.

I'll keep my eyes on the news-reports for the next few days, to see if the media has picked-up and reported on the tripping-hazard story. Oh, I am sure they will... After all, they watch this forum all the time... It looks like an oversight to me. I predict some yellow paint on the landing-area, and better traction-covers on the stairs. Definitely. Only a small amount of work is needed to rectify these two issues, and I would assume they will be done before the upcoming open houses in Vancouver.

WOW what a spacious engine room (and real stair access unlike those ultra tiny stairs of the Queens) and elevator access for moving things to and from the engine room very nice (like those nice looking chairs ).

I love the look of it from the outside. I also like the nature theme. I'm not liking the color of the seats though. Overall a very nice ferry.

Anyone know a good explanation for that big yellow dot on the roof/deck of deck 8.

Anyone know a good explanation for that big yellow dot on the roof/deck of deck 8. Isn't that a helipad for emergency use? Or an area where they can lift someone off the ship that has to be flown to a medical facility in extreme cases?

I've been told that helicopters can't actually land on there.

They can't actually land, but it is the "pick-up" zone for medical emergency helicopter evacuations.

[sarcasm]A Helipad Helicopters Can't Land On. Yeah, That's Really Useful.[/sarcasm] If it's not absolutly meant for it, What's the use of Having It?!

The use of having it is that a person with a heart attack/stroke/other illness that needs immediate attention can be airlifted to hospital instead of waiting an hour for the ship to dock. I thought that was fairly obvious.

re the Helicopter:
The yellow circle on the ferry is just a target, a clear area. That gives a rescue helicopter, that's hovering-above, something to aim for, when lowering the SAR-Tech by cable, and then hoisting up the SAR-tech and victim up to the helicopter.

The ferry could have easily been strengthened enough to allow a helicopter to land on the deck. However, for the few times in the life of the ferry where one would be required it would mean dragging around all the weight. The penalty of weight that high on the vessel would increase the roll in rough seas and make ballast lower down more necessary. This all adds weight and would cost a lot of money over the life of the ferry in extra fuel costs and efficiency.
Someone more knowledgeable than myself in this area may know better, but I recall watching a documentary on Sar-techs and they always lift someone off rather than land on a ship. I believe hovering takes less fuel than landing and taking off again. When landing I think there is something to do with the electro magnetic field generated by the spinning blades that can cause a problem when landing on a metal ferry.

Well, it is not "so" easy to make a landing platform. You need much more space, than a pickoff-zone. We had to do a helicopter landing platform on the Norröna we designed (it was built in Luebeck). See the massive platform at the aft: Besides the strenghtening you need more free space around, lighting, fire fighting equipment and so on . That´s why the Coastals don´t have one, as they are always close to shore.

Airchime whistle set (E, G# and B)... The notes are actually E, G and B♭, although I wish they were E, G♯ and B, which are an E-major chord. The Super Cs' whistles put out an E-diminished chord or a C-major chord without the fundamental.
