Ms. Marshall was a great sport to pose for that group-photo with us. She is iconic to us ferry-geeks, but also consistent in the job that she does. (big thanks go to forum-member Nick "Kalatawa Teen" for asking her to meet us).
I wouldn't be able to do a job where I had to be "on" for hours on end, always looking presentable, never knowing what questions will be thrown at you, always having to be the public-face.
Another amazing thing about Ms. Marshall is that she's done this job for 2 ideologically-different Government/Regimes. I'm not sure how rare a thing that is; but Gov't press-secretaries seem to change with the Gov't. She must be strong in her diplomacy skills....
I usually find that my empathy/respect for people increases after I meet or see them in person; no exception here. (However, meeting former MLA Paul Reitsma was an exception to this rule for me, but that's another story.....)

Yes, Ms. Marshall is somewhat the Queen of BC Ferries:) For our group, I suppose she'd be considered a minor celebrity;) And it was very nice of her to pose in a photo with us... I don't know if she even really knows who we are, but she gave us a bit of her time for the photos and questions on a day that I'm sure was really busy for her. She's obviously good at what she does, as Mike has pointed out, since she's held the same or similar jobs for two quite different bosses. I remember talking to her once at Horseshoe Bay during the terminal expansion for a school project back in the old BC Ferry days - she was very helpful then too. And a few of my photos from today: View of the Coastal Renaissance from the Quinsam this morning: View from the wharf near the Nanaimo Harbour terminal: The Sitka Lounge with its excellent views: The playground on Deck 5. My in-laws overheard a ferry worker saying the play equipment might have to be replaced because of safety reasons. We'll see what comes of it. A little extra. The Quinsam arriving at Nanaimo around 9:20 this morning:

OK, I'm going to purge alot of my photos from today on here, for everyones viewing pleasure. That way all you have to do is scroll down, and saves your finger from clicking the mouse more that necessary. To see my journal of the day, along with everyone elses, look at the Forum Group trip thread. Snowing on the Cowichans Sundeck. An experience I experienced for the first time today. That's the Queen of Esquimalt on her way into Duke Point, which is the ship the Coastal Renaissance is pushing out of the way. As she was coming into the harbour, alot of made tourist remarks like "Is that the new German ship over there?" "Is that a cruise ship?!". Yes, there is ATMs onboard now, right by the gift shop!!!Can you figure out which one is Graham, and which one is Michael? I believe Graham and Michael are standing on the sundeck at the bow, port side waving at us in these pics. This final picture concludes another great trip!

Where were the buses shuttling people from? Harbour Park Mall or Park Place or whatever they are calling it now? The buses were used for shuttling people between the main lot at the Port of Nanaimo used for parking and the ship.

It was only a 30 second bus ride from the Parking Lot to the ferry. I took it going but I walked back to take pictures. Speaking of which I am currently uploading them now, I will post when They are ready, I have about 120 pictures to upload on my Mom's Very Slow Computer so this could take a while.
Those buses are Brand New to the Nanaimo Transit fleet, they were put into service in December, Now we have a total of 10 Nova buses.

The picture I took of the promotional information placard in the wheelhouse came out too blurry for me to read. Did anyone else get a clearer snapshot?

Cool pics, shiptracker!
And I think I finally got the crew to get the CR's #1 end AIS transponder corrected. Her #1 end is facing the Departure Bay terminal and it's reporting the correct MMSI and callsign.

Hey guys thanks for all pics once again. Great to see everyone there and only increases my jealousy. I can recognize about half the faces. If everyone was ok with it someone should post the names like an official photo . So has someone gone after Coke yet to be the official drink of the forum? All you guys had Coke cans in your hands but we will have to work on how you hold the cans so the logo shows better ;P.
