Unless my eyes are deceiving me, the big mural picture of the 'Spirit of British Columbia' is a PRE-MLU version??? Or did I miss something? No that is Pre-MLU. That and the one that Deborah Marshall always is standing by on TV will need to be changed I assume we’re talking about the poster thing that from WCFF’s instagram page (first picture in the album shared above in this thread); it looks pretty much the same as pre-MLU but it looks like it has been updated to include the conversion to LNG. Notice that under “fuel capacity” it says “1 Natural Gas Tank....”

Toilets In another nod to the past there seemed to be a lot of toilet issues. You think that would come out on the trip over from Europe. (The nod to the past being the SoBC missing almost a month of service when new for plumbing issues). Seriously though, this is a significant issue. There were very long lines to use the washroom, and by the end of my first sailing the buffet ones were out of service. Were the toilets and urinals were replaced?

I still haven’t been onboard yet but from my terminal side analysis the car decks are much brighter with the new LEDs. And I mean SO much brighter that it was noticeable to me, standing by berth 5 at Swartz Bay, looking into the MCD at berth 1.

I had my first post-MLU trip aboard the SOBC this morning also.
Overall I was pretty satisfied with all of the upgrades. The new engines/propulsion system makes a huge difference with the onboard ride experience. Far less engine noise and vibration than before, particularly on Deck 5 aft. Even while the ship was maneuevering it seemed relatively smooth.
The Arbutus Coffee bar seems to be a major hit so far. There was a lineup there for the entire crossing. At one point the lineup ran from the till and almost right up to the starboard side kid play area in the Deck 6 midship lounge (Coffee bar is in that lounge at the aft end).
The new secret lounge on Deck 6, Port side forward is probably one of the best spots to get away from the crowds and noise, aside from the Sea West lounge.
That’s just my two cents to further Dane’s first impression.
Nice to have both Spirits back on the run together again.

Spirit of British Columbia has just departed Swartz Bay and is passing through Colburne Passage on her way to Tsawwassen on the 1 o'clock sailing.

I am on Spirit of British Columbia right now. I don’t mind the post mid life refit interior. But BC Ferries should expand the selection of drinks and food at Arbutus Coffee Shop because it’s seems like waste of space with such a lack of food and drink options. Also BC Ferries should get rid of seats that are on every other ferry and put Spirit Class seating in its place because they seem out of place on the vessel since all other seating is same past pre-mid life interior design of Spirit of British Columbia.

I just disembarked the SOBC after a round trip today! I like the new interior even though not much has changed! I like the new little lounge on deck 6 it’s nice and quiet at least on my sailings it was! The Arbutus Coffee Place is nice but I don’t like the fact you can’t buy cold fountain drinks there and have to go to the Coastal Cafe for that! I think the Passages Retail Store which they call it now is way too big! Do we really need a big retail store like that onboard? The whole ride is so much more smooth now not a lot of shaking it seems! I’m gonna compare when I take the SOVI back to Swartz Bay tonight!

Great video and photos (in prior posts) of SOBC since the refit. I'm looking forward to riding on this vessel at the end of July.

Spirit of British Columbia is late and is headed for Active Pass. Spirit of Vancouver Island has already been through the pass and is headed for Swartz Bay. - 5:51pm on July 2, 2018, seen from Bluffs Park on Galiano Island . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

According to a friend of mine who recently visited the bridge of the SOBC, he was told that the new Whistles are not to be used unless it is an emergency. The captain told him that Transport Canada has asked BC Ferries not to use the whistle as it is extremely loud.

If they’re that loud then what was the point of the SOBC getting retrofitted with those whistles? It also makes me wonder why BCFerries didn’t just get the same whistle set as the Coastal Class, and why the different chord? It doesn’t really sound like BCFerries past vessels. This is all very weird, at least for me 🤔

If it is a Really nice captain, and you request it going through Active Pass, There is a 95% chance that they will use it. Obviously if there is a moron in the way, then the will stop "mooing", Then give a real blast.(BTW Charels, I like trains too).
