Very nice pictures, and excellent perception. I checked a marine chart I have for Discovery Passage 3539. The 'Expedition was right over Ripple Rock. The power lines are right over the top of the waters where Ripple Rock is. The peaks of Ripple Rock are north and immediately south of the centre (centre steel pole) of the three power lines. So at some point her bow would be over the south peak, the stern the north peak. Excellent pictures. Thanks Paul. It's great how an hour or so of ship-viewing can give so much fun when I sort through all those pictures and see what I captured.

Once upon a time it was posible to travel up and down through the Seymore Narows on a positioning cruis. wonder why they don't sell trips from Vancouver Tsawaassen to Port Hardy when the ships are clearly scheduled to make the run. I would be interested as a passenger if the cost was reasonable

I have done that trip before when they used to have those cruises. First time on the Queen of the North from Port Hardy to Tsawwassen departed at 7:30am arrived Tsawwassen which was a nice day cruise. My only trip on the Queen of the North! My second Port Hardy to Tsawwassen cruise was on the Queen of Prince Rupert a few weeks before the North sank. That cruise we departed Port Hardy at like 10pm and arrived in Tsawwassen at 3pm the following day which was cool! I too would like BC Ferries to have those cruises again! The Nor Ad and Expedition wont fit at Tsawwassen docks though.

A really cool simulation featuring the Northern Expedition from YouTube.
Now if only we could have her available in Ship Simulator! ;D

what portion of the route is it depicting? The simulation doesn't appear to be from a route BC Ferries serves.

MV Northern Expedition arriving at Bear Cove, at the sunset hours of 22:00, July 4th, 2012 As seen from the end of the Breakwater at the boat ramp just west of the terminal. Upon sitting there for about 20 minutes, I hear that familiar deep rumble that the German boats unleash when they're under their own power. Sure enough, sure appears, very slowly around the corner. OK, pose for the camera, Norex Commence opening of the Bow Visor Trying to get a closer look by carefully walking across the low tideline of a kelp bed... Beautiful. Shutting Main Engines down after tie up Stay tuned for part 2, and the appearance of the Queen of Chilliwack on the morning of July 5th, 2012

what keeps the bulbous bow spaced away from the dock when the Northern Expedition is docking bow first Good question. I had asked that myself this morning. There's actually a creosote soaked beam that's strung along the face of the pontoon on the dock. It's mostly submerged under water though. The Bulbous bow actually presses up against it while they're thrusting into the dock with the engines. Obviously they wouldn't want to do this for an extended period of time, so like any Northern Vessel, the lines are kept taught so she can shut down engines and stay pressed up against the dock. Part 2 06:00 - 07:00 July 5th, 2012 Open wide and saw "Awww".... Time to go. It's sailing time. That's all for now. I return to the Norex again in a little less than two weeks from now.

From the early morning hours of July 19th. I returned to the Norex for a second time this month. 04:45 A few posts back, someone asked what the Norex presses into when she docks "bow-to". Here's a closer look. Looking up Norex car deck photos Looking aft from the bow Amidships looking forward After end Departure time. Queen of Chilliwack comes in tightly to Bear Cove to keep out of the way of the Norex while she gets turned around. The Chilliwack and the Expedition Cheers

Northern Expedition was just in Kitimat, due to a medical emergency. She's on her way back down Douglas Channel as I type this. I hope everything is alright...

:)gee wis! I hadn't wanted to complement the wonderful ro-pax looks of the Northern Extravagnza? I guess I'am still stuck in the 60's and the dogwood era! anyways I guess it will be over, and out, to another generation who can look forward to 40 years down the road and our super spirits! :)mrdot.

Does anyone on here think that they might ever put a terminal in Kitimat because of all the talk of LNG plants or a refinery, lots of workers needed to get to work to first build it then run it

Here are two shots of the Northern Expedition out bound from Prince Rupert Harbour for Haida Gwaii - 11 October 2012. See if you can spot the Dogwood flag in the first photo... photo © WCK/JST by Wett Coast, on Flickr photo © WCK-JST by Wett Coast, on Flickr
