:)very nice posted sail away scene of our new Northern ro-pax, I think the hard chine knuckle off the bows is mitigated a little from astern! a nice gathered portrait as well, I'm not sure if the dogwood flag is too conflicting with the management team! nice report, mrdot.

Here are two shots of the Northern Expedition out bound from Prince Rupert Harbour for Haida Gwaii - 11 October 2012. See if you can spot the Dogwood flag in the first photo... Nicely done.

:)very nice photo journey thru our northern pay-per-view ro-pax! Let me get this strait, you as a northern explorer, have to pay-per-view in this super-natural forward lounge, on the four cruise ships we have sailed, we had the run of the ship, no first, second, and steerage! this must be a different to any of the other cruise industry vessels, a bit splashy for the charlottes, I would think! overkill for sandspit! but a good batch of images, mrdot.

how busy were the sailings you were on??? Route 10 - Wednesday, October 10th to Prince Rupert:Dead. After a few people got off at McLaughlin Bay, we're lucky if there was thirty passengers aboard for the trip to Prince Rupert. In fact, it was so quiet, we had the starboard flex lounge all to ourselves. Here's the load on the car deck... Route 11 - Thursday, October 11th to Skidegate:Relatively quiet, but more than our sailing northbound on Route 10. Gale in Hecate Strait where we encountered 2 to 3 meter seas. Route 11 - Friday, October 12th to Prince Rupert:Busiest sailing we were on. Lounges were relatively full and there was a school group aboard. We decided to spring for a exterior cabin on this sailing due to the passenger load. Gale in Hecate Strait where we encountered 3 to 4 meter seas. Route 10 - Friday, October 12th to Port Hardy:Busier than the northbound sailing on Route 10, but still quiet. Passenger load seemed to remain consistent even with stops at Klemtu and McLaughlin Bay. For our final night aboard, we decided to spring for a exterior cabin to get a good sleep before our journey back south. I take it they let in you in the pay lounge to take photos?? Still I think they should have that open. Nice views from there. Correct, Karl. While it's quite possible to leave both doors open and use it as a seating lounge for off-season service, it would likely require an additional crew member, plus be another large area to clean. Also, BC Ferries would likely get complaints if they were to make it free for the off-season, but charged for peak-season when the only perk is some Dasani water and some packaged snacks. As of Summer 2012, the cost to enter has had its first increase, moving from $30.00 to $35.00. Thank you! As usual, a very nice group of photos, Scott. Thank you, Jim! But an even bigger thank you to you for your photos of us and for you taking the time to meet up in Prince Rupert! Wow awesome shot's !! Kyle Thank you, Kyle! :)very nice photo journey thru our northern pay-per-view ro-pax! Thank you, Mr. Thorne! While it's a shame there is no forward viewing available in the off-season, the Northern Expedition still has plenty of space available in multiple lounges throughout the ship.

Scott & other extravaganzers:
How was the ride in Hecate Strait with seas up to 4 metres occurring? Was their spray coming up over the Aurora Lounge windows? Did you find the ride to be unsettling?
Had you been on the NorAd you might have lost lunch. Any such feelings on the NorEx?

Had you been on the NorAd you might have lost lunch. Any such feelings on the NorEx? I don't believe the spray was that bad, as the Captain told us they didn't have to close the vents for the cardeck located at the bow, which they would do in heavy spray conditions. The ride was pretty bumpy, but I wouldn't say I found it unsettling. Also I'm not prone to feeling seasick, so no feelings of queasiness. Might have been a different story on the NorAd.

Well we were on the NorAd just last March in the Hecate, experiencing seas that were topping off around 5 to 6 meters, and none of us lost our lunch. I wasn't feeling seasick by any means, but I definitely didn't have any appetite for food for most of the Hecate sail. Walking around aboard the 'Ad in those seas feels a bit weird though, especially considering she's rocking and pitching to a good 20 to 30degrees at some points. The return trip to Rupert, I slept for a good chunk of it. You'd have to ask Jord, Mike, or Curtis how it was, if any of them were awake. ;D IMHO, I really don't mind the NorAd. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, that a fair bit of the booing of her seems to just be bandwagon participation. She really isn't a horrible ship.

After sailing on the QPR, NorAd and now the NorEx in choppy seas, I can honestly say she handles exceptionally well. Definitely a night and day difference over the NorAd, that's for sure. In fact, it was comfortable enough to have a large drink sitting next to my laptop while I was uploading photos in the Canoe Cafe.

:)It sounds like our young voyagers found the big canoe out to the charlotte's a much better sea boat than the norad greek disaster, it looks like it's somewhat overscale for this northern service, has drive thru technology, the old QPR a little more to scale for this route, but it look's impressive for those that can afford the pay-per-view lounge! :)mrdot.

And she doesnt look that bad in person. She just definitely aint photogenic.

So I guess you changed your mind? You used to say that she was the ugliest ship in the fleet and worse. And she doesnt look that bad in person. She just definitely aint photogenic. Saying the NorAd provides for a positive ferry travel experience is like saying McDonald's is delicious fine dining: both the lowest forms of service in their respective category. I would say that there was a very brief period of time while on board that I thought the NorAd wasn't that bad. It was the 20 minutes prior to departure, when we were introduced to our luxury stateroom. And then she got underway and hit a 0.1' chop, and it all went downhill from there. I did not "lose my lunch" per se in our Hecate Strait storm, which prompted the 10 hour delay, however I did have a problem with her serious rolling issues and, as Luke so eloquently expressed on this forum after our journey, "rocked like a drunken monkey on cocaine." For me, the NorAd was another BC Ferry to cross off my list, and now I never have to take it ever again. I had a lot of fun back in March, because I love the crews, I love the route, I enjoy the people I traveled with, and I love Northern BC in general. I can compare as I have been on both boats - but I do not think the hate that the NorAd receives is by any means "bandwagon"-induced - it is general consensus.

The Nor Ad is not the ugliest the Chilliwack is. I still like the Chilliwack though and I don't mind the Nor Ad either.
