The Nor Ad is not the ugliest the Chilliwack is. I still like the Chilliwack though and I don't mind the Nor Ad either. The Chilliwack's just Unique in my opinion. The Howe Sound Queen is definitely in the running for ugliest, and depending on what you consider to look like a ship, the C's might pop in there too, especially the Alberni in her current incarnation and the the Surrey/Oak Bay duo.

The Howe Sound Queen is definitely in the running for ugliest, and depending on what you consider to look like a ship, the C's might pop in there too, especially the Alberni in her current incarnation and the the Surrey/Oak Bay duo. This is all a matter of opinion, but remember the ferries are there for a purpose, not to be a luxury yacht. There are European ferries that are absolutely grotesque compared to anything here on The Coast. But even so some cruise ships out there are ugly too, there are those with fine lines, but the huge oversized vessels are not all that appealing. Ferry watchers will certainly not see the return of the fine lines of grand ladies such as the Langdale Queen and the late Queen of the North and of course the classic flagship, The Rupert. I did find the re-incarnation of the Esquimalt, Vancouver, Saanich, etc. to be grotesque. I always liked the Spaulding ships, but only in their original shape and form when I sailed aboard many of them in the late 1960s. The Northern Adventure isn't all that bad lookin, and the Northern Expedition is fine looking. The C ferries are a bit boxy, but unique in their own way. Anyone figuring a return to the fine classical lines of a Spaulding designed vessel is dreaming ferries sailing by. But it's one person's opinion as in "to each his own". Whenever the subject of ugly ships is brought up here on WCF, I have to bring up this ship, just to help us to appreciate what we have... This is the same ship, from two different angles. :)in reference to the senior cptn, and mr. kenleyside, I should like to remind that the terrible rebuilt ferries shown are not vessels as built, those european ferries were good looking vessels originally, but became abortions when they were savagely rebuilt! As for our ferries, as I said earlier, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and is subjective, what I used to think was shipshape, is not what many of the younger generation feel! and new age mgmt? :)mrdot.

The NorEx is scheduled to be relieved by the NorAd on Saturday, March 16th. That means that the NorEx will be in refit for about 2 months. It also means that on that day there will be photo opportunities again as she heads south through spots like Seymour Narrows.

Do we expect her to go down South the same day?

For some strange reason (satire intended here), you failed to mention the photo-opportunity for the northbound NorAd.

Nice Work so far and for the rest that is to come, guys!
It's interesting to Compare Scott's Picture above with his Signature from October. I can see in the Picture from this Morning that all the Exterior Lights from Deck 5 through 8 are on, whereas in his Signature from October only half of the lights on Deck 7 are on. and none on Deck 8 except for the Funnel Lights.

Here's the first movement: She has four "SMIT" tugs assisting. Heading out. Out as SMIT WOLF was released from this assignment. The NORTHERN EXPEDITION was pulled out from Deas bow first. Underway with SMIT CHINOOK escorting. Passing Steveston. Away from civilization for awhile and meeting a favourite freight ferry us Forum members love looking at. The NORTHERN EXPEDITION is on her own and gaining speed as the SMIT CHINOOK returns up the Fraser River. After leaving the Fraser, the NE takes a starboard turn to join the northbound traffic pattern and heads for her northern service. END
