:)the graphics just posted by evergreen fleet of the marg 111 artwork shows how deceiving steamship art could be, to my mind this was among the most awful ships livery this coast had inflicted on their eves! mrdot. I do think mrdot. showed tremendous restraint, went above and beyond the rules of fair play in his comment on the P.M.III's 'deceiving steamship art' , for which he should get a big fat Lollipop. I've never seen such a mishmash of suggestive advertising symbols used in travel promotions...ever! Yikes, I can't believe that piece of copy ever got by the editor of the publication. Not only was the depiction an insult to the converted Queen of Burnaby but also to the great legacy established and maintained for many years by the original, very beautiful Princess Marguerite.

I'll mix it up a bit more by saying that I prefer the look of the 1st Princess Marguerite to that of the 2nd (and of course to that of the 3rd).

The 'steamship artist' who created the mess to which mrdot. refers has now brought historical wrath from within the confines of our esteemed forum membership Unfortunately, all the grand old coastal steamers are long gone but thankfully we do have treasured pictorial publications to which we can all yearn for the beauty of yesteryear.

My 'Burnaby Solstice videos, from my time at David's Beach in Comox, last Saturday night.
I went there for some oceanside relaxation, and I ended up creating a tribute/legacy video of sorts, for this Spaulding ship in her final years, here in some lovely summer evening light.
-----------------------
and part 2
view in 1080p high definition for the best quality.
One of my favourite parts is the view of the shore ramp being raised and the bow-doors closing, as she gets ready to leave the Little River berth (6:12 mark in the first video)

A few more shots of Queen of Burnaby from Little River on July 1, 2014 - 10:05pm or so... I was very happy with how these end-of-day photos turned out, at the end of a fun day of travel and visiting. ------------------------ These first 2 photos were taken from the top of the path down to the beach, from the back of the car holding lot. The navigation lights (port-red and mast lights) are still illuminated. These next 2 photos were taken a few minutes later, as I drove by the overflow lot and thought I'd see what the photo angle was like there. Navigation lights are now switched off. -------- At the end of my sailing, a time-exposure on the spinning radar units. I was hoping for darker conditions for this, but I still got some spin effect.

Queen of Burnaby seen from Westview wharf at 8:30pm on July 1, 2014 Phil Spaulding reached through the clouds and pushed this ship towards me, for me to admire With the new berth configuration at Westview, a bow line isn't used, unless it is rough weather.

The 'Spaulding' design of all the early 'Queens' is a beauty to behold. There is no reason we could not build replacements again, right here in our own back yard. The updates to machinery and bridge technology could easily be incorporated, with designs turning them into double enders. As the original design sits, someone convince me that docking, loading, and unloading times etc., would be reduced to a point that would necessitate the need for double enders. Great series of shots of the Queen of Burnaby Mr. Flugel Horn

Various views on Queen of Burnaby, July 10, 2014 I like the pattern on the deck, caused by the morning sun through the grated railings Bell and Glacier - which one will last the longest? Spaulding staircase Quirky elevator vestibule The long and empty platform deck (a sight that angers Todd) Comox lurks beyond these doors...

hmm so now they are only opening certain areas of the upper deck. That's interesting. Maybe they are doing some work on the upper deck?

I have noticed recently that the Burnaby doesn't appear to be showing as much rust as she usually does. So perhaps they are doing what they did to her last summer and having her exterior painted. Though you'd think this would have been done while she was in Esquimalt late last year.

This is something that can be done dockside.

Queen of Burnaby and North Island Princess, seen from Hwy-101 in Powell River. - noon on December 24, 2014 This is one of my favourite spots for filming ferries in Powell River. The small bit of elevation allows me to get a better view of the approach to the terminal.
