I am prepared for all of this I will keep everyone posted on the final plans but I can say for certain that all of this is under plan A while back, I sent a note to BC Ferries asking if there was anything in place yet to send her to the torches of Ensenada. Didn't get a response. She's still at Deas, getting rustier all the time. Given our current economic climate, I can't see any serious bidder showing interest, and I doubt BC Ferries is even looking for one. Price of scrap, and of scrapping, being what it is, she might be hugging the back wall for some time yet.

Well I have been looking into purchasing the MV Queen Of Burnaby and a friend of mine who is a worker at BCFS who I will not name said that at this point BC Ferries would probably give it to a prospective buyer for peanuts so I am ready and preparing to purchase her before God forbids she ends up being scrapped. My personal idea for use once and if I can seal a deal is for the Deck 1 2 3 4 and the wheelhouse preserve what is left and hopefully make a historical exhibit for the V/B-Class, as for Deck 5 excluding the wheelhouse I am considering a couple of options including having living quarters for me and my family and any ferry fans I know whom are interested, my other idea is a floating church which I am going to assume would be the first of its kind. Cheers Jimmy What a wonderful Idea, I was thinking the same idea one day, I certainly cant buy I former BC Ferry now. Now lets all hope that she does not turn into saw blades like past V class ships that went to the cutting torches of Ensenada. If I were going to buy a former ferry it would probably be the MV Mayne Queen when she retires, I have no place to put such a ferry. The MV Mayne Queen is on the route I take to get to my Cabin on Saturna Island.

At the very least, one should snag those General Arrangement drawings on that page!

I kinda wish that BC Ferries would turn her into an artificial reef somewhere along the coast of British Columbia.

Would make a great new maritime museum in Victoria, moored along the Gorge somewhere, perhaps.

Wouldn’t it be better to beach the Burnaby somewhere permanently, drain all the fluids/harmful materials/ get rid of the asbestos, and then keep it as a permanent museum structure?
Then you don’t have to worry about pollutants getting into the water/leaks and such and it could be really cool.
The car deck could even potentially turn into a drive in / regular movie theatre of some sorts.
Although it would require lots of money to do it right, it could turn into a major legacy project which after covid could attract many visitors (or at least those on this forum...)

Well, a member on the previous page did make some quite bold statements about going forth with such museum efforts - wonder if we'll ever hear back from them...

Well, a member on the previous page did make some quite bold statements about going forth with such museum efforts - wonder if we'll ever hear back from them... I think that was one of the forum's teen members. Four or five others have chimed in with suggestions to perpetuate the ' Burnaby. I guess they form the start of the lineup of investors willing to make it happen. Their $100, or whatever they're willing to put up, along with, oh... maybe another $50 million or so... might just bring things to fruition.

While our young adventurous investors are at it, for a few bucks more I've got a floating restaurant I could throw into the project. I think 'McBarge' could be integrated with the ex-Queen of Burnaby and make a delightful eye-popping new project, problem being, where to put that mess...eh

Woah woah woah, let’s not surmise the claims of purchasing the Burnaby to those pesky teenagers, because while some of us have, let’s say an extreme amount of ambition, I’m a bit pessimistic. The Burnaby is beyond repair and is too costly to keep afloat, and it would be sad to see her end up like the Sidney, all though if any of the younger members are looking to put some forward, I got a whole $50 with the Burnaby’s name on it 😉

Due to the disrepair to keep afloat thats why I thought of the possibility of bringing her out of the water.
But yes any plan would require a significant amount of money not only to find a sight but to do all of the restoration work that would be required and to keep up with maintenance

According to a BCFerries customer relations rep, the Queen of Burnaby has officially been sold! No idea who to and for what price because the site made it very clear it would be a private purchase...

Pacific Boat Brokers has her still listed for sale. Maybe they haven't updated the listing, or maybe the current owner isn't BC Ferries, even though she's still sitting at Deas.

I found that strange as well, maybe the rep just wanted to give me a quick answer, and was actually talking about when she was previously sold? I have no idea...

BC Nautical History facebook page is showing the Queen of Burnaby being towed out of Deas. Off to Ensenada this time, perhaps.

BC Nautical History facebook page is showing the Queen of Burnaby being towed out of Deas. Off to Ensenada this time, perhaps. The Facebook commentary now has her heading to Fanny Bay (for who knows how long). Per SiiTech AIS, it appears that the tow is being done by SST Orca and SST Salish (yes, interesting combination of tug names). As of this posting time (4:30pm on Sunday Nov.28th), the tow is off the south end of Gabriola Island, heading north in the Strait of Georgia.

So much for heading to Fanny Bay? She’s now east of Hornby Island still trending northbound on the strait. Perhaps she’s Campbell River bound to join the NIP?

As at 8:42am on Nov.29th, the duo of tugs are currently approaching Baynes Sound, from the south. I will try to keep following this during the day, to get an idea from AIS of where the two tugs end up stopping, presumably to leave the Queen of Burnaby at that place.

Here's a link to a webcam at Deep Bay for anyone who wants to try to spot the Burnaby passing by on this foggy morning.

At 1100PST, the tow crossed over the cables of the Denman Island ferry. NO TANGLES!The tow safely crossed over the cables. The cable ferry made her crossing without a mishap (it looks like).
