In a way, the Burnaby might be more fitting for Route 9 with her additional passenger space. Realistically though, she would need another 10 Million (maybe more) done to her if that dream became reality. I've always wondered why the Burnaby's Upgrade was 3 Million vs the Nanaimo's 14 Million. What we see now aboard her is one of the results of that decision. I'll be glad when I hear the Burnaby is heading for refit. Route 17 is going to be pretty out of 'Wack' as a result though. That is, if the Burn does replace the Nanny. Powell Riverites are going to love it: Less space and longer crossings. It'll be a lot to stomach...literally. Not that it's a bad thing for me, I enjoyed my crossing on the Chilli last time she was on Route 17, but I might want to make reservations if I have to bring my truck home this winter.

As said before on this Forum, when the BURNABY was on the Seattle run, the people who ran her gave us an abstract of her full whistle sound as they turned off the lower sounding whistle of the three whistle set. Would be interesting if they turn that on when she's on the Tsawwassen to the Gulf Islands run and let her whistles sound as they should. Perhaps our BCF deckhand moderator can persuade that one to the captain of the BURNABY for the benefit of all of the ferry whistle fans on the coast.

Personally I like the Burnaby more than than the Nanaimo! I dont know why that is maybe because she's nicer inside than the Nanaimo and she has more carpeting too and more space which isent taken up by a big Gift Shop. I dont really like the hard floors on the ferries I like the carpeting which makes it much more nicer and less noisy too! How many Gulf Islands people could tell the Burnaby from the Nanaimo from the outside looks the same. Inside maybe.

How many Gulf Islands people could tell the Burnaby from the Nanaimo from the outside looks the same. Inside maybe. Half of them are probably stoned out of their minds on that reefer stuff anyway, so they probably wouldn't notice a thing. The rust? That's what they'd call psychedelic! All the pretty colours will just make them that much happier ;D PS: Note how I say 'half' the people, which means that I am suggesting that the other half are smart, normal people. That's just so I don't start a fight with a Gulf Islander, if we've got any here....

Speaking of stoned out of their minds...not really though. I had a dream last night I was aboard the Burnaby and this area was still tied off. However there was a difference, it looked like there was less rust than before, my reaction, "Holy **** they did something!" so loud that somebody stopped what they were doing and stared at me. Now this was a dream so something wasn't right. That the temp fixture in the picture was moved to the right more and on the ceiling where it was in the picture, there was a giant square hole. That's where it cut out.

Hey, any chance that you could zoom in on the photo and check if you can read the little paper sign on the fixture/box? EDIT: Plus, anybody who's on the 'Burnaby soon, do me a quick favour and go to both the deck above and the deck beneath the box and see if whatever it is comes through the other side. Maybe it's some kind of shaft.

I have an update on the rust situation seen in this photo. I haven't uploaded the photos yet, but it may surprise you to see how much of a difference there is.

The last time I was in Comox, it didn't look as bad as the time before, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's been painted.

Thank God they painted her! I was thinking that maintenance had forgot she existed! She still has much work to be done, but that's a start.

She looks so out of place in an area with so many trees, so close to the ship!

Yikes! Chris, do you suppose we could convince you to sneak back to the terminal after hours and do some touch up painting on the Burnaby? Saltspring Islanders are sure in for a shock!

I bet most people won't even notice it until they walk up the stairs and read 'Welcome Aboard the Queen of Burnaby'. Most people I know can't even tell the difference between a Spirit, a C, and the NorEx, and even if I told them, they wouldn't give a rat's hiny about it either.

There are only a small group of people who pay attention to what ship they are travelling on. We, of course, are some of them.

BC Ferries really should of taken the Burnaby out for refit before the Nanaimo! Looks like she needs it more! I know I will be doing a few trips on the Burnaby on route 9!
