Queen of Alberni, as seen by me on Dec.31, 2010. An early-morning shot from the Nanaimo harbour terminal, while I was waiting to take the ferry to Gabriola Island. ----------------- Photos from a lookout on Gabriola Island, which is on the opposite side of Northumberland Channel from the Duke Point terminal. - a new favourite spot, that would be great to observe a 'NewWest spin from.

The mighty MV Al Bundy, as seen from Pipers Lagoon park in Nanaimo at sunrise on January 22, 2011. ----------- - with Harmac pulp mill in the background, as the 'Alberni leaves Duke Point on her 7:45am sailing. Gabriola Island in the background. Passing behind Snake Island. - Snake Island is the "traffic island" that divides the lanes of Route-30 and Route-2. Going wide to round Entrance Island. - Seaspan Doris in the background. - a bit of messing with the photo-program to make a bit of a silhouette.

:)my brother's shot of Q. of Alberni off Gallaino shores reminds me of her disasterous day grounding on Collison reef not long after this shot was taken. Capt. Al Bahry had just been given command and was not familiar with the totally different handling qualities of these 'v' hull vessels as opposed to all the regular hulls he had been familiar with, and a drastic turn put her stern hard up on the reef! It was a last minute miscue that was a result of lack of familluration that should have been arranged by management of the day, as I understand it. It was an accident that couldn't have happened to a nicer master! :)mrdot.

I like this shot, it really captures the essence of what our intermediate sized vessels are like today.

Nice photos of Alberni, FerryDude. You jogged my memory of something I have been meaning to post. EGFleet sent me a pic of Alberni in her original configuration awhile back, and I made a before and after photo out of it using that photo and one that I took of the ship a few years ago. It really shows how nice the vessel looked before BC Ferries hacked it all up in its various "upgrades" along the way. It may carry more cars now, but it sure doesn't look pretty anymore.

The main car-deck of the Queen of Alberni. - July 2, 2011, 3:15pm sailing. The thing that I like about the 'Alberni's main car deck, is the open-air on the side-lanes from the rosenowindows. - the close-up of those holes in the hull. The other end.... -------------- VIDEO: - from main car-deck window, of Q'Alberni cutting through the water. www.facebook.com/v/10150240115058647

Queen of Albuquerque, taken on July 6th: Beyond the maze of walkways at Tsawwassen. Really highly edited... With my signature orange sunspot. I love how this ship has all that outside space at both ends past the bridges. Some neat colouring in this one. Queen of Oak Bay way off through the lower left pane. The starboard tunnel. A different angle of the Alberni.

Queen of Alberni artsy-shots from July 2, 2011. - planned shot, as we passed Entrance Island. - showing how short her superstructure really is. And a size comparison at Tsawwassen. - Alberni's bridge superstructure is dwarfed by the SOBC's bridge.

Queen of Alberni as seen from the Coastal Inspiration on their 8:15pm sailings: I really like how this captures the divide between the river water and the blue sea-water.

Some awful sounds emitted from the Alberni's No. 2 end whistle.
Please adjust your volume level before playing this video. Whistle sounds on departure at :03.

She has the potential of a good horn, talk about a song being played at the end.
