In case you were wondering why the Coquitlam is #1 on route three right now- she assumed the position when the Surrey was out for clutch repairs. It's a pain to do a berth switcheroo at the end of the day, so they decided to leave it to sometime tonight, when the Coq will likely sail off for her annual refit.

Queen of Coquitlam and Coastal Renaissance feature in this all-day timelapse video, shot from Sugarloaf Mountain, above Departure Bay Nanaimo. - shot over 10.5 hours on January 1, 2015
The start of the video also shows the Island Tug & Barge fuel barge arriving at Departure Bay. Later in the video, it leaves.
Watch the anchored freighter spinning around with the currents, in the faster speeds of the video.

Queen of Coquitlam sailing in place of the Queen of Surrey to improve OTP statistics, this past Good Friday. I love that hill location. Was the sketchy wood deck still up there, on the cliff?

I love that hill location. Was the sketchy wood deck still up there, on the cliff? Yes. I used it for some photos but stood back. Certainly also felt some radiation from all those radars, not to mention the Telus tower on the other side of the bay.

Queen of Coquitlam @ Langdale Terminal, Sunshine Coast - 15 March 2015. She was filling in for the usual boat ( Queen of Surrey) which was in refit at the time of this photo. I have quite a few photos of the Coq but not one of them showing her in the main berth at Langdale Terminal. © WCK-JST by Wett Coast, on Flickr

Taken from the port side MCD from the Oak Bay's 0830 departure from Berth 3. Later that day, the Coquitlam took over the Surrey's duties on Route 3...

Why is the Coquitlam #1 out of Departure Bay? The Cowichan is not out of service?

I was wondering that too! Just like why is Elwha #1 doing the international run and the Chelan is #5! Who knows!

Why is the Coquitlam #1 out of Departure Bay? The Cowichan is not out of service? A crew member told me that the Cowichan's midship elevator is out of service. Because they use it to bring up stores to the galley, they aren't using the Cowichan as #1 for efficiency reasons. Plus they want to have 2 elevators available to the passengers on the main sailings.

Queen of Coquitlam - in Georgia Strait en route to Departure Bay - 15 June 1980. At that time (1980) she and her sister the Cowichan ruled the waves on route 2. I was aboard the Cowichan when I took this photo. She had been in service for about four years when this photo was taken. She had already lost her upper car deck 'arches' and some of the car deck 'windows' had also been plated in. Nevertheless the original symmetry was still there. Not so much today. © WCK-JST - Fujichrome 80-6-10] by Jim Thorne, on Flickr

And let's not forget that beautiful, original orange naugahyde interior, or th e solariums, originally called "muster stations".

Queen of Coquitlam is my christmas ferry in this December 25th video.
- the choral voices at the 5:00 mark appear to be rejoicing that I've adjusted my tripod on the fly to level the horizon.
