When did the Queen of Coquitlam get her elevator installed? Her mid-ship elevator? That was installed in 1976...the year she was built. The elevator at No 1 end that also serves the sundeck was installed during her mid-life upgrade in 2003. However her sister, the Cowichan, received her 2nd elevator a few years earlier than that..in 1996 when she had her interior "prettied up" a bit. Yes elevator at No 1. Why didn’t elevator exist when first built and why didn’t both elevators go sun deck at first?

As for not going to the sundeck, I don't think that would have been possible, I believe it would have been too close to the structure around the funnel on that level. As well, equal accessibility to all areas for disabled persons just wasn't a priority in the 70's like, thankfully, it is now.

Queen Of Coquitlam is now going under annual refit at the Deas Dock I am kinda of confused about her refit for this year is she going to come back into service just October 4 and 5 then going back into refit for a little longer or will she be able route “L” routing come October 6.

As well, equal accessibility to all areas for disabled persons just wasn't a priority in the 70's like, thankfully, it is now. None of the vessels of Washington State Ferries had elevators until the 1979 ISSAQUAH. I think the Supers and JM1s did have dumbwaiter elevators to move food items between the car deck and the galleys then. There were no public elevators on the PRINCESS MARGUERITE 2, except that the engineering crew had a private one operating between their staterooms on the Boat Deck to the Boiler/Engine rooms. The PRINCESS PATRICIA 2 was given a public elevator for her Alaska cruises and was located next to the aft staircase. It didn't give access to the aft observatory, though (the forward buildout housed the machinery). Staterooms for the engineering crew were relocated to the former car deck on the port side, their private elevator was removed, and more public staterooms were added on the Boat Deck as well as the starboard side of the former car deck and the former cafeteria and ballroom. All WSF vessels have one or two elevator(s) nowadays. Even the smaller Pierce County ferries have them too.

Queen of Coquitlam arriving @ Tsawwassen Terminal - Fall 1994
This ferry was operating on the run to Nanaimo at the time, and I am not certain that it is the Coquitlam. It could be its twin, the Cowichan. Unfortunately at that time I was using 'Seattle Film Works' film, something which I wish I had not done.

Somehow, I don't think it is her. It may be the Oak Bay or Surrey as the wheelhouse is too far forward. But I also could be wrong - won't be the first time.

It's definitely either the Coquitlam or the Cowichan, the Oak Bay and Surrey forego the two platforms/decks in front of the superstructure entirely.

Jim correctly identified it as the Coquitlam.
The thin black band on the funnel, as well as the tighter spacing of the name on the bulwark both rule out the Cowichan.

Queen of Cowichan was on route 3 from 1981 to 1996.

The Coquitlam passing a place I was shooting this afternoon. Wondering if she was deadheading? I didn't see anything in Current Conditions.

This photo was shot just after 2pm today. The original service notice was at 2:01pm, it looks like the Coquitlam changed directions halfway through the sailing and returned to Horseshoe Bay.

Vesselfinder lists her as Military Ship 703, but must have another name. She is sharing the waters with the Coquitlam this past Sunday.
