I attended the the Mayne Queen celebration on Sunday, November 20th, when she made her stop at Saturna Island. I was also on the last official sailing from Swartz Bay to Saturna with the Mayne Queen on the night of the 19th. I will get videos and pictures uploaded in the near future.

Mayne Queen is supposed to get a life extension refit in May 2023 Excited to hear that BC Ferries is still investing some more money in her for a refit.

Mayne Queen is supposed to get a life extension refit in May 2023 Excited to hear that BC Ferries is still investing some more money in her for a refit. Huge if true. Despite only getting maybe at most 10 hours total with her, I really got to understand the situation and atmosphere. I felt comfortable… like I was at home on board. I didn't feel uncomfortable leaving my phone plugged in charging up on deck, and loved the feeling of the wind whipping past me on the uppermost decks. Honestly I'm quite mad I wasn't here to see her sign off. I got to Saturna Island today by way of a transfer off one of the Salish classes onto the Cumberland, and was wondering where the old girl was. Something felt off… now I know. I'm rambling, but it does make a man emotional. It's hard to say goodbye, even if objectively the goodbye is only to a ferryboat.

Lovely story on the Mayne Queen's farewell visit to Saturna, from a link that 'Blue Bus Fan' posted. Small gripe: the writer repeatedly said she'd been serving Saturna for forty years, even though her story included a big banner celebrating 57. Also missed was the fact the she had a snack bar in the earlier part of her service. I'm going to copy and keep this story for my files. www.gulfislandsdriftwood.com/islanders-give-beloved-mayne-queen-ferry-a-heartfelt-send-off/

Lovely story on the Mayne Queen's farewell visit to Saturna, from a link that 'Blue Bus Fan' posted. The career of the Mayne Queen in the Southern Gulf Islands takes us from the Motor Princess (aka Pender Queen) on the early end, to the Salish Heron on this end. The new boat, however, is not capable of side loading at Saturna.

The new boat, however, is not capable of side loading at Saturna. The thing that struck me though, Jim, was that we have so many accounts of how ships of the old CP, Union, and other bygone companies played such an integral role in coastal communities, and to a large extent, connections with individual BC Ferries vessels are not so apparent. That's why it was so nice to read of Saturna's connection to the Mayne Queen. I guess 57 years of familiarity will do that.

Think it's replacing the Cumberland. Cumberland replacing the Malaspina for refit coverage.

Think it's replacing the Cumberland. Cumberland replacing the Malaspina for refit coverage. The calculation of fare page said is Queen of Cumberland was to replace by Salish Raven.

Not enough crew for two Salish class.

Not enough crew for two Salish class. I don’t see a service notice saying the Mayne Queen will be replacing the Queen of Cumberland. Maybe the delay Salish Heron was to make sure there was enough crew for two crew Salish Class vessels.

The Mayne Queen has been removed from the fleet page on BC Ferries website Has the Mayne Queen been retired? Mayne Queen was supposed to get a life extension refit in May BC Ferries said not long ago that she was to be a relief ferry. Her AIS is still turned on at Deas. They would have no spares outside of relief season if they got rid of her, so maybe it's a glitch... or maybe some major problem has been found that they weren't counting on. Hope not.

I hope BC Ferries does state reason for Mayne Queen being retired. I wonder if Transport Canada upgraded where not worth the costs.

The Mayne Queen book available at Bolen Books; first place I've seen with shipping available. Just grabbed a copy and will likely read it tonight, it's quite short. If there's anything noteworthy I'll post some thoughts. bolenbooks.com/item/kUIAuTpWhPz0h1rFI3Tsug
