Just to be clear. Not a word of the above was written by me. The rant is all the work of randomferryguy . I would ask him to please pull this post and redo it so that it does not appear to be quoting me. Thanks I've edited their post.

Thinking back to comments made by Neil a few weeks ago following his trip to Gabriola Island aboard one or both of the Island class vessels now in service there. I am thinking that just possibly updated "electric-ready" versions of the Skeena Queen would have been a better choice of vessel for the short sheltered water crossings to Gabriola (& Quadra) then the Island class that has been chosen. I think standardization is way to go for fleet: 1. Easier and quicker emergency breakdowns. 2. Easier crewing training due all vessels being the same. 3. Uniform passengers experience. 4. People like outside decks. I think we will see four or five class fleet: 1. Island Class for minor routes that don’t need much capacity or two boat service on high demand minor routes. 2. Intermediate Class replacement for Queen of Capilano, Queen of Cumberland, Skeena Queen and Malaspina Sky. 3. Salish Class for Salish Class and possibly Queen of Cumberland, Skeena Queen and Malaspina Sky if no Intermediate Class. 4. Coastal Class for major vessel replacement. 5 Northern Class for Northern vessel replacement.

This coming from average person point of view. I find funny how the Skeena Queen is only vessel in the fleet that has notice that if you see BC Ferries internet connection asking for credit cards information it’s scam. I think BC Ferries would have something on website about paid internet access if was onboard vessels.

Skeena Queen leaving Swartz Bay, October 3 2023.
Could Skeena Queen do route 5/5a again in the future? I know Skeena Queen just did the Otter Bay route a few days ago. Route 5/5a is getting quite boring now without Mayne Queen.

This is the "ferry" at Fulford Harbour that was replacing Skeena Queen's cancelled sailings due to missing crew members today.
+ a photo of Skeena Queen and Powell River Queen from the replacement "ferry"

Day 3: Saltspring Island to Victoria She may not be the New West, but the Skeena Queen is grand in her own way. I had a wonderful chat with one of the engineers on this sailing. He absolutely loves his ship. DSC_0976 by Sean Goerzen, on Flickr DSC_0159 by Sean Goerzen, on Flickr It was a real bonus seeing an old friend anchored at Fulford! DSC_0058 by Sean Goerzen, on Flickr The Skeena was running pretty behind this day (about 50 minutes), so I guess the normal timing of berths was pretty messed up. We ended up going into Berth 1! Even some of the older crew said this was something they had only seen happen 1 or 2 other times before.

But I think the 100 car capacity on an open car deck should have resulted in more than one vessel. This was a good model.

I got two chances to sail on the Skeena Queen this past month. On the first trip I got the privilege of seeing the engine room and the bridge. On the second trip I stayed outside to enjoy the views. Here are some photos from these trips. Sorry some of them are taken from my phone so aren't great.
