I had a photo shoot on Bowen Island yesterday, and while waiting for the "Queen of Always Behind Schedule," I shot some video footage of her entering Snug Cove.
I am having problems embedding this, so if the moderator wants to step in - please do so! Done!

Queen of Capilano, seen by me on September 18, 2012. Arriving at Horseshoe Bay. - with Queen of Surrey in background. Later arriving at Snug Cove, Bowen Island I'm on the Queen of Surrey, passing by Bowen Island, and I get a view of the 'Capilano at Snug Cove. - This shows the placement of the twin coves: Snug Cove on the left, and Deep Bay on the right, with the Cardena Drive residential area point of land in the middle.

Will the Queen of Capilano ever get platform decks in the future to help out with traffic to Bowen Island?

This has been discussed in the past, but I don't see it happening since Snug Cove's vehicle holding capacity is insufficient for a vessel with a greater vehicle capacity. This is why BC Ferries hasn't deployed a vessel like the Island Sky to Route 8.
Plus, adding platforms would make loading the Capilano longer. She would run late if she had to deploy them.

Will the Queen of Capilano ever get platform decks in the future to help out with traffic to Bowen Island? As I think has been mentioned here quite a while ago, there was a 2 or 3 week period many years ago (10-15?) when the Cumberland relieved the Capilano on the Bowen Island route. Even when there were overloads during that time, the platform decks WERE NOT used. The main reason was as stated above: the extra turn-around time required, therefore the regular schedule could not be maintained.

What if, the Queen of Capilano went to the Swartz Bay-Southern Gulf Islands along with Queen of Cumberland. Would she get platform decks?

What if, the Queen of Capilano went to the Swartz Bay-Southern Gulf Islands along with Queen of Cumberland. Would she get platform decks? I think that the Capilano's potential for Route 5 has been discussed here before. If she were to ever permanently move on to routes 5 or 9A, I would say the installation cost/benefit analysis would indicate that traffic is not increasing so there would be no need - she already has a 15 car increase over the Mayne/Bowen. If there is an increase in traffic, then it's a possibility, but if it were to happen today I would say no.

What if, the Queen of Capilano went to the Swartz Bay-Southern Gulf Islands along with Queen of Cumberland. Would she get platform decks? Assuming that none of us here have the power to make that decision for BC Ferries, we'd all just be offering our opinions to you. No one knows for sure. But if it's opinions that you want, you should also share yours. What do you think, and why?
