Full-size here.Off in the distance on the right of the picture. Could it be one of the other V's. Through the binoculars it didn't look like it had the upper car deck.

BigAir, thanks for the photo and news.
I travelled by ferry from Bella Coola to Port Hardy yesterday (monday) and never saw the Q-Tsawwassen, so presumably she didn't go any further than Port Hardy, if at all.
I'm guessing that she's in a logging-camp inlet somewhere off of Johnstone Strait or Queen Charlotte Strait.
...but it would have been neat to see her in Fitz Hugh Sound....

That Sidney-class vessel was most likely the Tsawwassen. She was a regular on route 2, serving as the fourth vessel along with the 3 B class for more than ten years in the 1960's and on into the 70's. In 1974 she was replaced by the 1st Queen of Surrey, and ultimately by the C-Class in 1976. The Queen of Sidney was on the D.B. - H.S. Bay run in June of 1964. I can't remember how long she was on that run as our H.S. Bay crew switched a few days later back to the loveable Sechelt Queen which we crewed until being handed the brand new Queen of Nanaimo. Transferring from the rustic old Sechelt Queen to the 'Nanaimo' was like trading in the old rust bucket and driving away in a brand new car.

Some pics of the Inlet Explorer from her current 'home' in Port Alice, northern Vancouver Island... Thanks for these. As fate had it, I was up near Port Alice on July 12th, when the ship would have been there. - I recall that "bigair" posted a picture of her going past Quadra Island on July 10th or so.... Oh well, instead of me driving an hour out of my way on July 12th to see the Inlet-Explorer, I did a footie round-trip on the Quadra Queen II instead, on that day.

Hey Ladies and Gents, I am a consultant up at Port Alice currently living on the former Queen of Tsawwassen. I will be here for two more weeks and can provide pics by request. I have the run of the ship, along with 50 Boilermakers. Flitch (Now to learn how to post pics on this forum)

(Now to learn how to post pics on this forum) Photo-posting instructions are on page 4 of the forum guidelines, under the "Images" header. - attached www.westcoastferries.ca/forum/ForumRules.pdfPosting IMGs of photos that you've "hosted" on a site such as Photobucket is the preferred way of posting photos here. You'll notice that some people use the "attach image" style of photo posting, but that gives poor results because no one can quote that photo, and so it gets easily lost in the forum threads. Once you get started with trying to post photos using a host, let us know if you have any questions, and lots of people will be willing to help. Or, if you'd prefer someone else to post your photos for you, let us know. I'd be willing to help with this. ========= ps: - have fun running around those 50 boilermakers.....hopefully there not all from Perdue University....

Any ideas on where this is? - forward lounge? Or is this looking aft in the upstairs lounge (where the kids play area used to be) It is definitely the aft sun deck lounge, now partially divided up into 'state rooms' complete with dogwood carpets. The forward prom deck lounge has seven widows across in the front. Hopefully Kevin could get us some pics of that area, as well as the car deck so we can see how that looks today.

I am working nights so will take my camera in hand at the break of dawn and take photos of the car deck, the new helicopter pad on the foredeck, the foreward lounge and the swimming pool on the aft top deck. Okay, Just kidding about the swimming pool but the cooks Bobby and Izzy are world class. You havent lived until you have had Chef Bobby's mulligatawny soup. I'm here for ten more days if anyone wants closeups of anything. Im a boat guy myself. kootenayman.blogspot.com/p/boating.html

The window arrangement may not necessarily have been conclusive evidence, but there are other details that pretty much assure it is the upper aft lounge, such as the stairway railing at the center, the air ducts along the ceiling, and the loudspeaker on the post between the two center windows, all of which are specific details I remember from that part of the ship. I can provide interior photos if necessary. The ship sure looks right at home in that berth at Alice Arm, though. That overhead shot is amazing. We never really had anywhere we could have taken overhead shots of the ship when it was in service.

It's really neat to see the Tsawwassen like this. While I hate the idea of the change of layout from the days of being a ferry, I'm glad to see everything is for the most part still intact.
I'd like to see more engine room photos, car deck photos, lounge photos, even a look at one of the new staterooms. Any idea what the space on the port side of the Cafeteria that's on the other side of that new wall?
A huge thanks to the photographer. It's not too often we come across in depth photos of ferries in another life.

I forgot to mention, and it may sadden some, but both propellar shafts have been welded to prevent them from turning again. Its very dark in the room aft of the engine but I can take pics if anyone wants to see. Kevin Nichol

:)I for one, was very happy to see all the many views of our onetime mv Tasawwassen, and particularly liked the overhead view of the complete hull, and the helm that is so very similar to the one I once held on the sister mv Sidney, which was the sweetest handling vessel I ever came across! Thanks Kevin for your work, mrdot.

I really liked the shot of those freshly baked buns: I doubt the old 'Tsawwassen ever smelled like a bakery.
She's been altered and is obviously serving well as a hostelry. Let's hope she can continue as a functioning asset on our coast, beyond her life as a ferry.

And now I am going to reach back 40 years in the life of the Tsawwassen, back to when she was a regular on Route 2.... The Tsawwassen is shown here at berth 1, Horseshoe Bay, on the 9th of April 1971. The berth structure looks little changed from Blackball days which ended 11 years earlier. Look for the cake, the pastel blue trumpets, and the blue vested dining room steward. From the JST Flickr photo site ©
