A Queen of Tsawwassen photo plaque showed up on a bulkhead of the Queen of Nanaimo today. It's located in the former Snack Bar lounge, on the port side, and close to the Aft Staircase. Some nice aerials.

I'm probably wrong on this, but I was always under the impression that the Tsawwassen never had the teak handrails, but only the Sidney did. Or did the Tsawwassen just lose hers earlier in life?

I was zooming some of Wet Coast's photos of her and she did have the teak rails. Up until a refit in October 1971 that photo shows them missing.

Queen of Tsawwassen near Sturdies Bay, Galiano Island - ~April 2002. I expect that she was filling in for the Nanaimo during a refit... photo © DOT by Wett Coast, on Flickr[/size] The date & location that I have given are my personal 'guesstimates'. Corrections are welcome.

I would concur with your location assessment, WCK. I believe that photo would have been taken from Georgina Pt. while she was waiting for another vessel to clear Sturdies Bay.
When did the TSA stop being the full-time winter route 9 boat?

When were the platform decks 'cropped' on the Tsawwassen? What was the reason for doing this?

Hello, New member here and first post into an old thread. (been lurking basically almost the whole ex BCF threads reading up on all these old vessels, every single page read! quite fascinating) Just curious, where is this vessel located now? and from reading the previous thread it is now a camp? What type and purpose? is it still able to move under its own power? Would be happy to know more about one of the few remaining V's around. (if i got that right)

The Queen of Tsawwassen is a camp somewhere on northern Vancouver Island. A few members and I attempted to locate it the old fashioned way about a year ago, but with no avail. The last we heard, she was a temporary camp facility for a mill in Port Alice that was undergoing work. When we drove to Port Alice and on to the mill property, she was nowhere in sight. The Queen of New Westminster is the only ferry in operation with a V-class configuration. All original V-class (Victoria, Vancouver, Saanich, and Esquimalt) have been scrapped. Hope this helps!

Cruise around the North Island in a VW Passat looking for a giant white boat. That being said, this was literally an hour after we had spent four days on the NorAd, so we were all pretty delusional and hard of hearing.

Renting a high speed boat (with on-board accommodation) for a few days would be my choice. Time it with a Columbia/Kennicott and it makes it even more awesome.

The Tsawwassen is as of last week at the top of Toba Inlet housing a work crew building road for run of the river hydro projects

Something that I have been pondering for the last little bit and after a conversation with a family friend the other night I pose a question to the group. With the huge demand for capacity demands in the 70s they stretched the 7 sisters and bought a used ferry (Queen of Surrey the first) why would they not stretch the twins? (TWS and SID) My few ideas where that the ships car deck being just a little narrower and harder to load then the Vic class was a consideration or are the two classes that far apart in design that it just was not doable.
Thoughts?
