Great photos! Imagine if the design had created more passenger accommodation on the main deck? I always enjoyed seeing the B.C. Provincial Crest above the bow doors whenever one drove, or walked onto the vessel. "Splendor Undiminishing"!

This model has certainly made the rounds over the years - I remember seeing it on display at the provincial museum in Victoria back in the 70's, then at the Maritime Museum in Vic in the 80's and 90's, along with many other models of BCF ships.

Thanks for posting this. A LOT of photos provided. Interesting to see Inlet Explorer (Ex Queen of Tsawwassen) as she is today. Also kind of sad.

Anybody who buys the old hulk is not going to be worried about the availability of props and rudders. They'll probably be more concerned about the expense and return of scrapping. I've seen all these photos before, so either this is an old listing, or they're using the same shots for a current sale.

I also know there are guys a lot better than me. It really doesn't look all that bad. If the hull thickness is good, this should be a pretty simple fix. I read this whole thread looking for a draft depth and some idea of how far this class of ship can operate on a full load of fuel. I discovered a great number of people who seem to have a deep connection to this vessel. Seems cheap enough. If I had $500,000 I'd buy it myself. It would make a good method to do vehicle import tourism.

And, no, there aren't any guys more skillful or more crazy than you who would take it on. Maybe you're new to the coast and not aware of how $500,000 would be gone in five minutes on a project like that. On this forum, we've been talking for years about dreamers who buy old car ferries and lose their shirts, or leave their purchases rotting away somewhere, for someone else to clean up. It's not even worth talking about.

Sad to see her in such rough shape these days. In 2013 I was working up in Toba Inlet for one of the hydro projects and she was being used as a floating camp up there at the time, even got to stay aboard her for a shift. She was in a lot better shape back then.

Does anyone know the exact location of the Queen of Tsawwassen? I noticed on the listing it says Campbell River but I cannot find anything to back that up.
I would like to go check the vessel out.

I have two photos of when the Tsawwassen was with Helifor, and then with Crowman corp. the photos only had an 8 year difference, but you can seethat Helifor maintained the ship better than Croman corp did. Unfortunately, I don't think that the old girl has much of a future, other than going to the scrapyard.

I stayed on the Tsawwassen when I worked up in Toba Inlet in 2013 for the construction of one of the run of the river hydro projects up there. She was in excellent shape back then, similar to the first photo in the last post. Sad to see how much she has aged since then but unfortunately that is the reality with most of these old ferries falling into disrepair.

Thanks for posting this. A LOT of photos provided. Interesting to see Inlet Explorer (Ex Queen of Tsawwassen) as she is today. Also kind of sad. The interior actually looks okay. Exterior looks bad, needs a scrub. Obviously time has taken a toll on the steel. For what they've been using her for - a floating bunkhouse, it actually seems to be functional.

I hope someone buys it, so they don't resort to scrapping.

Queen of Tsawwassen is being towed south past Powell River at this moment.

Looks like the Queen of Tsawwassen is being towed by the tug "Quadrant Partner", who now appears to be approaching Port Melon. Presumably she will join the Carrier Princess at a site near the pulp mill that is about to start a scrap operation

I was just talking with someone close to Coho, and it left me wondering:
How much of a "Clone" were Tsawwassen and Sidney to Coho's design- as built?
Now I don't mean the obvious stuffs like Superstructure and funnels, but Frame Spacing at Car Deck level, hull form, stern entrance and doors. Stuff like that. I know Black Ball stripped Sidney's English-made Steering Gear when she was retired (Phil Spaulding insisted on that steering gear!), but really- how much were Tsawwassen and Sidney like their American basis?

It was my understanding that pretty much everything was identical in design.
The only real difference was that instead of the side-door on the coho to enable loading in Victoria, the Sidney and Tsawwassen had the doors on the bow to help it with the roll-on-roll-off aspects and for loading efficiency.
Hope you enjoyed your trip on the Coho.

In a way, not sure what is worse, her or the Sidney? Wait, it's possible to be worse than the Sidney? Kidding aside, very sad to see such a great ship in the shape it's in. Fantastic shot Ollie! Thanks for sharing, I have wanted to see a new photo of the QoT for quite some time.
