The Mill Bay's original Gardner Diesel Engine is now on display at the Maritime Heritage Center in Campbell River. There was an article about this move of the engine into the center in a June 2011 issue of Western Mariner. With a little more research online, I found photos of the move, and the beautifully restored engine at the Maritime Heritage Center's website. www.maritimeheritagecentre.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=54&Itemid=102Please note: This engine was removed from the ship in 2001 during her 3/4 life refit.

Has anyone done any follow up on the Mill Bay since she's been retired?

As mentioned earlier on our Facebook page by @mileagephoto , we found the Mill Bay thanks to @coastalskier's eagle eyes on today's forum outing in the Northern Gulf Islands. Here are the first photos we have of her as Buttle Shuttle, which at this time is currently located near the former Catalyst mill at Elk Falls. Awesome work ! Did you drive all the way to Elk Falls mill area, or was the sighting from the Powell River Queen ferry from Quadra ? - just curious about the details of this most-excellent of finds by Mr. Skier.

Awesome work ! Did you drive all the way to Elk Falls mill area, or was the sighting from the Powell River Queen ferry from Quadra ? - just curious about the details of this most-excellent of finds by Mr. Skier. We had a bit of time to kill after photographing the PRQ, so we thought we'd see if the Royal City Star was still at Elk Falls. When we were driving by looking for a decent clearing, he mentioned that he thought he briefly caught a glimpse of the Mill Bay. We got turned back around towards Campbell River then slowed to realise that it definitely was her, turned around again and parked on the side of the highway. After climbing down an overgrown embankment, we got a clear view of her near the shore. We can confirm the Royal City Star is still moored at Elk Falls, as well as a more recent addition, the former CCGS Provo Wallis.

:'(Nice! I Miss seeing her from the Malahat. Of the dozens of times I've driven that highway over the last 40 years, I would almost always see her gently making her way across Saanich Inlet.

In the "bad day at the office" photo for the Mill Bay... The slide is dated 29 May, 1989. Ouch! That hurts! But thanks for posting it. I knew there was at least one time she ran aground... Too bad there was a camera around this day. From the background scenery, I would deduce that this is the Mill Bay side of the run. They did swing pretty close to the shore on that side, so I guess it was easy to get too close. I was just perusing the thread, and I was kind of horrified to see her 'new' name. Seriously, who came up with that?

I was looking through my photos a few weeks back and came across a Walkthrough I'd never posted of a now retired vessel. Since there was snow on the ground at the time of Filming I thought I'd post it for Christmas. So without further delay, here's my Holiday Throwback of the MV Mill Bay. (Complete with my old intro music just for fun ) This was filmed during my last time aboard her in November 2010. (Okay it's not really a Throwback, but Still )

Can't believe I never actually posted this here... I got a detailed video of the MV Mill Bay on her last day of service - May 1st, 2011. Video here: Hey... one of the forum's earlier members is back. And it raises the question... is he the only one to have shaken David Hahn's hand?
Thanks for that video.

Hey... one of the forum's earlier members is back. And it raises the question... is he the only one to have shaken David Hahn's hand? I never shook his hand, but I did talk with him a little bit at the Coastal Renaissance Victoria Open House back in 2008.
