Is that the Pender Queen in the next slip with the people on the bow?

Is that the Pender Queen in the next slip with the people on the bow? Yes, it is the lovely Pender Queen.

Is that the Pender Queen in the next slip with the people on the bow? I would say "Yes", because of those oval-shaped cut-out "holes" on the side of the ship. I believe that's the Pender's signature look.

Beautiful early JST photos! Great framing on the QotI shot; interesting to know she was once on the route, that's news to me.

Replies to Graham's (Retro) and Neil's comments above:
The original slides have been 'processed' (& especially cropped) a great deal to improve them. Digital photography is wonderful in that it allows you to do much with photos once uploaded to the computer. The same applies to film photos once scanned to the computer.
Neil, I did not know that you had a 1978 schedule that actually indicated that the Pender Queen would be on this route. When you wrote that the other day it got the better of my curiosity. I could not remember what vessel I was on, but I was fairly certain that it was not the PQ. So that prompted me to look through my slides. Did the schedule indicate which vessel was the primary one on the route? The interesting question is how did the QotI come to be on that route?

I am also curioys - but I think you could answer, why is there two vessels on the route at that time?

On another thread we were discussing the Powell River Queen, and in particular her appearance before stretching and after she had had her superstructure modified to take additional over heights. See ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=generaltalk&action=display&thread=1195795018 in particular replies 7 to 15. This discussion sent me in search of a package of slides of mine dating from July 1978. I found them and have scanned three which are shown below. The Jervis Inlet route was indeed a two boat operation that summer. The vessels were the Powell River Queen, and the Queen of the Islands, not the Pender Queen as was suggested by Neil on the other thread. I don't believe that I was ever fortunate enough to have taken a ride on the Pender Queen / Motor Princess. Anyways, here are the pics from the 15th of July, 1978. I was on my way from Vancouver to Powell River where one of my brothers was getting married later that day. Queen of the Islands @ Earls Cove, Sunshine Coast all phots by JST ©Again, great shots of ships... This is also an angle we don't usually see the Queen of the Islands from as well... I found it interesting to see she had some sort of lift gate system at the stern which is evident in the photo.

Dane- There were two ferries on the Earls Cove - Saltery Bay route every summer, starting in 1969, up until the Powell River Queen was stretched in '79.
Most years the second boat was the Pender Queen, but the Bowen Queen was there, apparently in '72 and '73 before it went to Saltspring, after which the Pender returned. I don't have a schedule for '79, but as of the summer of '80, the Powell River Queen was on her own, doing a very tight ten round trips a day.
Perhaps, for some reason, the Powell River wasn't there in the summer of '78? Don't know how long she was out for her dissection- maybe that's why the Queen of The Islands was up there.

Thanks for the information - did not realize they had so much service up there. I still think in the core BC Ferry system it's the most beautiful route.

Boy, the things I do for you guys... i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/Kahloke/PA300150.jpgSorry, but I wasn't going to be arrested for gross trespass by boarding her. Though if I had had another hour, if there hadn't been a fence, and if there wasn't a group of at least 3 or 4 yard workers already trying to get me to vacate the premeses... See, the problem with photos is that they have to be taken during the day, see, and I happen to like my reposal activities.
