Here are some photos of the QUEEN OF THE ISLANDS I took of her on my round trip SeaBus ride just before attending the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics. did you see me there? I was one of the choir boys in the burgundy robes. You should have let us know before. I would have given you my seat number. It would have been really fun to chat with you. Hope to meet you in person one of these days. You choir members sang divinely. It was a beautiful sight to see these real athletes put their disabilities aside and perform the best they could in front of the thousands of cheering and appreciative audiences. Now, back to the discussion of the QUEEN OF THE ISLANDS.

Just uploaded Video Queen of The Islands as shot from the Burrard Beaver on April 30, 2010 Really nice video! Great capture of the ferry and our favourite north shore icon together. To bad the Lions were clouded over. This was exactly how I saw the QUEEN OF THE ISLANDS on my many trips across Burrard Inlet aboard the SeaBus fleet during the Olympics and ParaOlympics.

Introducing the Spirit of the Nation!!! Our Queen of the Islands has been renamed. I'll post some more photos from my trip tonight. Right now, I have to go to the my church's pastor's retirement party, though.

Looks more like a slogan or a tag line to me, but hey, you never know. I wonder what they are doing to her.

Looks like Mosquitoe Creek Marina may have bought her to be used as a breakwater. I use to keep my sailboat there. And the wash from the seabus's could really be rough somtimes.

Yes. There were, as of last summer, also plans for some sort of commercial venture, like a diner. The same place almost every retired BC vessel has had at some point. Although the QotI actually got new paint putting her light years ahead of many of the past endevours!

I think it might be the Vancouver Yacht club not the marina thats using her as a breakwater. When I had my boat moored there in 1996 they had two other boats doing the job. One was just a hull looked really old the bow looked just liked titanic's. The other was green coloured and probably world war two vintage. Perhaps the member who posted the picture of the spirit of the nation could post another one astern of her.

Next time I get out to North Vancouver, I'll try and get some more shots from land, if possible, of her. That'll probably be in a month or so, maybe less. I might get some aerial shots too when I'm leaving on my vacation in the coming days.

A short YouTube video from inside a Grummon Goose that's landing, near to the QotI fishing lodge. - the QotI is visible in the last part of this video.

I have read that the QotI was at one point dressed in Expo colours. I do not recall, however, ever seeing a photo of her in that livery. Does anyone have such a photo, or know of where one might be found?

Does anyone have such a photo, or know of where one might be found? The May/June 1989 cover of the Dolphin showed the QotI in Expo colours. Unfortunately it's not in colour. This is from the historic BCF Photos thread. May/June 1989 Deas Dock full of big ships! From Berth 1 we see the Alberni, the North, the Burnaby, the Tsawwassen and a smaller ship tied up to the Queen of the Islands. I have also scanned this magazine cover, and it's a larger size. It can be viewed here.

:)that airel deas dock collection in expo livery confirms my preference to the first pastel scheme. I think most of these old Dolphin's and alot of other material can be found in my collection which has been passed on to wettcoast! The design of Q of Islands was the only work of German Milne of Montreal, and was not suitable for west coast conditions, unlike the Spaulding designs, which were all sucessful! :)mrdot.

Is The Dolphin still published for BCF employees, or is it now a relic of the past? If not, when did they stop publishing it?
